So for my one AP class we took a practice exam the week before the actual ap exam. In order to prepare I looked over an online review book and did previous years frq’s on the ap central website. Low and behold when we take the frq portion of the practice exam, my teacher used a previous year’s frq that I studied from off ap central. After grading them he asked me how I cheated. He believed that the test he used was none released, neglecting the fact that he used a previous years released frq’s questions that you can get on ap central. I told him that to study I did previous years frq’s and that I remembered the answers when I saw that it was one of the years I studied.
My question to you guys is if all I did was simply practice frq’s off ap central to prepare is that considered cheating? Or is it my teachers fault who was lazy and decided to use an frq that can be found on ap central?
Note: I never once went on my phone nor ever go to the bathroom.
Is studying the material, then using what you studied on the test considered cheating? If the test is publicly released, I don’t see anything wrong with what you did.
I agree that what you did was studying and strategic too. Explain time your teacher how you prepared for the test, politely. I think that faculty would appreciate knowing that exams can be prepared for using the website from which items are derived.
I don’t believe that it’s cheating at all. You had no idea that those FRQs from that specific test would appear on your practice exam. It was a coincidence that you came across the same questions when studying for the AP using APCentral questions on CollegeBoard that are publicly released. I think sometimes CollegeBoard sends some questions solely to teachers, which is why he probably thought that the test he used was not released before.
I would explain to him politely that you were studying using publicly released practice exams from CollegeBoard’s website, and if necessary, show him an online copy of the FRQs where the questions you practiced/the ones that showed up on his exam overlapped.
