Can I pull off BioE and Economics in four years, without driving myself crazy?

I have AP credit in Microecon, Macroecon, Calc BC, Chem, Bio, Phys C Mech, Phys C E/M. Would that give me enough latitude to forgo some of the BioE classes, and take some Econ classes in theie place?

Yeah its possible, but maybe instead of getting a major in econ, you should just take a bunch of classes. You'll gain knowledge and wont kill yourself trying to get that 2nd major.

BioE is intense. While I suppose that double major might be possible, I doubt it would be advisable. For what it's worth, I know people who have AP credit in all of those classes and a few more and still have to schedule themselves pretty tightly to do a BioE major.

A BioE major alone is approximately 134 hours total, or somewhere around 17 hrs per semester. Coming in with your AP credit will definitely help, but I think you'd still pretty much kill yourself trying to do 2 majors with such different requirements. If you have other AP credit that would be good as well since it would take care of some of your distribution requirements.

jjjjj Has it right on the money. Just take a bunch of of the courses. My divisional advisor in the Humanities departement (Terrence Doody) always told me to never double major. He and most of the professors at rice discourage it because 1) the unnecessary pressure that students put on themselves and 2) there isn't really any additional benefits to having that second major. He said if you are especially interested in that second area than go ahead and take a bunch of classes but even if there is one class that is required but that you are not interested in or that you hate, then don't worry about getting the double major. His philosophy was to make your studies as enjoyable as possible while still getting the most out of your education.

i was one of those freshmen who came in wanting to dbl in bioe and psych. did not materialize cuz you have to deal with a school where the workload is crazy enough for one major. bioe stuck with me and i love the major and the curriculum for the most part. by not dbl-majoring, i can still take classes in the other field, but it also means i have more time to do other stuff that are interesting. like this materials-science grad lvl course in car-design-and-engineering that i signed up for next semester.
