This is for the second essay of the common app.
I think I've heard people saying that writing an essay about how you have moved is cliche.

However, I think my situation is pretty unique: I moved away from the United States to a third-world country, and I have spent junior and senior year here. The move has really altered my outlook on life, as well as my will to succeed.

Would this topic be good, or should I not write my essay entirely on this?

If you feel it has changed you and helped you learn more about life then do it. A lot of people do write about moving, but your’s seems to be more unique. However, don’t just talk about how you feel sorry for the people there.

The feeling sorry about the poverty part won’t even be a part of this particular essay. I was basically a slacker before the move, but I have drastically changed after it. I also expanded my best EC a lot after moving.

I’ll be interested. Moving from a small to big town, feeling oh so lost etc., are the cliches. This can be a very new perspective. Do go for it if you really feel strongly about it.
