For some of my essays, I plan on writing about my experience of moving to Shanghai, China, living there for eight years, and then moving back to the U.S. I know a lot of people write about how they struggled to adapt when moving to a new country, so I want to focus more on how growing up in such a cosmopolitan city and then moving back to my hometown broadened my worldview and made me more of a global citizen. Would this seem like a decent essay topic? Or is it still cliche?
I like it. In my neck of the woods, I only know of one student who went abroad for a couple of years and came back. We all thought it would make him a more interesting candidate for college admission. Cliche was definitely never a word that came to mind. But maybe in your area this is more commonplace…
