Is this HP laptop good for college next year?

I'm still a senior right now but I would like to buy a laptop within the next 2 months since it will be useful to have when I do my internship during the last couple months of HS.
Does this look like a good bet?

Also, how long would you expect a laptop like this to last? I kind of want a macbook but it is a bit more expensive than I can really afford at the moment. I'm majoring in psychology and dance, so my major probably won't be a factor in laptop choice.

What do you want to do with it? What is your actual budget?

The good thing about that laptops is its supposed battery life, but I would assume you would get 3.5-4 hrs instead of the claimed 6. Also good is its hard drive speed, but the processor is probably a bottleneck in terms of speed. You would get a lower end graphics processor, but if you won’t be gaming or doing anything beyond YouTube or online Flash games you’ll likely be fine.

The bad thing is that it’s an HP. They are a bit prone to breaking down, or so I’ve heard and read. But most all brands are like that. A SquareTrade study reported HP to be the least reliable (Google it). But laptops themselves are sensitive to heat, bumps, wear, and tear, so take that for what it’s worth.

PS - Have you tried browsing around Newegg or TigerDirect? They have good reviews in terms of service. I have personal experience with Newegg and they have really good turnaround with delivery.

This is a small laptop designed to be highly portable. It will not be good for running intensive applications, but it actually includes a GPU so it will be able to play most games. If you don’t care about editing video or playing Crysis then this will be a good pick, although I have my doubts about the shape of the keyboard. I would highly recommend trying out the keyboard before you buy.

I have a dm3t right now and I will say that it is among the best laptops HP has made thus far. The build quality surpasses many other PCs I’ve seen so far.

The AMD version lasts for about 4.5 - 5.5 hours depending on usage. You can look for reviews online. Usually the Intel ones use less energy than the AMD ones.

It has similar but not the same specs (notably the graphics card)

all the HP’s people I know have gotten have broken in some way before and after warranty…

^ she is right, I have an HP … it was good when I got it but it has had several problems in less than 2 years… the same happened to my sister. I’d stay away from HP and compaq.
