I have a portable hard-drive full of movies and songs(in the thousands). If I put them into my checked in luggage, will I get thrown into Guantanamo bay?

No, although I assume that the music and movies you have are legal copies ;)

If they’re illegal downloads then technically that’s illegal. But it’s unlikely that they’re going to open your luggage, scan the hard drive to see what’s on it, and send your details to the FBI to track where you downloaded them all from.

Even if they did do that you’d probably just be taken to court and sued for like six million dollars. So either way, I reckon you don’t need to worry about Guantanamo Bay just yet.

^ if it isn’t a security issue then its not an issue.

they dont have the rights to scan your hard drive without a reason

no one knows you downloaded the movies illegally or u just copied it from the original DVD which u paid, unless u tell them

Actually there have been several court rulings in recent years that authorities may check the contents of a digital storage medium (hard drives, cameras, etc) even without a concrete suspicion. Legally, it’s no different from opening your suitcase at the airport.

yes, but that’s only if you’re stupid enough to throw everything into a giant folder and label it “MOVIES”
