on a couple of the apps to schools i am applying to they allow for an extra essay where you can explain any special circumstances. i moved around alot in high school, went to five schools and my mother has a lot of health problems. my SATs and GPA are a bit on the low side. in the essay i explained a couple of the worst looking things on my transcript. but i dont want them to think i’m looking for a sympathy vote. so i added a paragraph in the end just saying, these circumstances contributed to my having lower grades but i realize that i am responsible ultimately for my performance, i should have done the work to the best of my ability whether i took the class once or ten times. does that work?
<p>it<code>s a good thing to attack your weaknesses, so that you</code>re not ignoring the problem shown in your transcript. but remember to end with a good note - maybe something positive about yourself.</p>
<p>yeppa. Maybe you shouldn't go for the "I am responsible for...should have done this...". At least, like kchen said, end on a good note. "Helping out my mom and moving around a lot in high school may have made it more difficult for me to attain <sats grades="" etc="">, but I did gain <independence experiences="" etcetc="">. I am looking to utilize these <positive attributes=""> and improve/grow as a person in college and beyond." Something like that, but maybe not so badly written and totally cliche ;)</positive></independence></sats></p>
<p>I think that the info would best be conveyed by your GC.</p>
<p>my guidance counselor didn't know who i was. i've been out of school for a year anyways. i had to fight with my guidance counselor the entire time i was a senior to get into APs, honors classes etc. i was some random kid he knew for less then a year when reccomendation time came, he had kids he had been working with for...almost four lol.</p>
