Hi, I’m new to this site so if this is in the wrong place I apologize.
I am in 9th grade right now. Now, I have thought a lot about what I want to be since 7th grade. I am going to attend an early college high school starting next year and earn my Associates, so this was important to find out. And I’ve decided I want to be a prosthetist. I am strong in math, science, and engineering and I know I can handle the schooling, which is at least a Master’s degree. I know my parents will be supportive. But there are a few problems.
First, there are only a handful of colleges that offer a Master’s in Orthotics and Prosthetics, which is what I would need. None of them are in my state which means paying non-resident tuition.
Secondly I would like to start my own practice. But is that too ambitious? Should I just aim for becoming a prosthetist and then see later if starting a practice could work?
Thanks in advance.
No, this is not too ambitious. It’s something that has been done before. It isn’t impossible. With regards to the cost of college, if you keep a high GPA and get high test scores, you can qualify for full tuition at many out of state public schools. You can also get need based aid and merit based aid. Don’t worry about this yet though. Just keep your grades high.
Okay, thanks!
