The person to ask is your guidance counselor, not any one of us. Rigor is relative to what is offered in your HS.
The top tier colleges will want to see the guidance counselor check the box on the recommendation saying you have taken the most rigorous course-load available at your HS (which doesn’t mean taking every AP class – there is often some latitude in this). If the guidance counselor says that your prior and projected HS schedules are sufficient to get that most rigorous box checked then you are fine.
Seven courses is a pretty heavy load, especially if you are occupied with ECs as well. I would say that you should actually drop one of those, unless you are able to keep up with your studies, you activities, and have 8 hours left to sleep at night. You shouldn’t be taking more than 6 courses in core subjects per semester.
At least replace one of those classes with some type of physical activity, some sport or maybe dance.
Personally I think three science classes is excessive. Rigor-wise it looks very good, but you could give up anatomy or biochemistry in favor of an art or sport - or a whole year of computers - and it will still look equally rigorous, but better rounded.
We have to take 7 courses each semester. I’m already doing a sport out of school and I’ve already fulfilled my art and p.e credits. Thanks for the response!
That’s what I thought, but I don’t like art and I’ve already fulfilled my art and PE credits. I’m doing cheer and an instrument outside of school as well. They computer year-long classes require me to take intro to computer science for a semester, but otherwise, I’d totally take a year-long one in order to not have three science classes. Thank you for your response!
@biochemsurgeon What are the graduation requirements of your school? Because seven classes each year without things like study hall and with only one year PE requirement seems excessive.
4 years of English
4 years of math
3 years of science
3 years of social studies
1 semester of pe and one season of a sport
2 semesters of fine arts
3 years of a language or 2 years of two languages
1 semester of health ( i took that over the summer)
technology or business credit (i already did that)
7 elective credits
I wouldn’t take so many science classes. What about replacing the one-semester “organic/biochem” class with Current Events, Sociology, Human Geography, something of the kind?
