I'm interested in applying to GWU. I got 3 B's my Freshman year and am aiming for straight A's this year. Junior year I should have 2-3 APs, 2 honors.

But does that sophomore schedule seem to weak? I could get Biology changed to Biology honors but I DESPISE sciences and do not plan to major in it.

good, normal schedule
just strive for excellent grades
don't upgrade your classes until you can maintain those excellent grades because you previously had a B record
AP history classes require back breaking reading and essay writing

I think you should take any course you can honors, just because it will better prepare you for college. It annoys me to death when I see college students complaining about how hard college algebra is and how they're going to put it off until their senior year and it will be their only math course.

It's not weak, but it's nothing special. You only have 1 honors but taking an AP class as a soph is good. Health/PE and Journalism seem like slap classes to me. Though it's too late, Alg II or Precalc would've looked better than Geometry. Even though you hate Biology, take honors because not everyone likes every subject, but competitive applicants take honors even in the classes they hate.

Don't listen to jamesford. Take classes you want to take, not what looks best to colleges. It doesn't matter how rigorous your class schedule is if you're not happy. Also, I'm going to guess that health/PE are required courses and colleges know that.

Do ask around about honors bio. I also hate science, but our honors bio curriculum was much more appealing than regular bio because they just have different focuses. See if your school is like that too.

^ The fact that he asks if the schedule is weak indicates that he is interested in having a decently rigorous schedule that looks good to colleges.

Journalism is A LOT of work. Our newspaper is the best in the state and is nationally recognized/ award winning. I plan to be editor-in-chief next which would be a great EC, plus I genuinely love it.

Health/PE is required.

I really want to take Honors Geometry (I have to take Geometry), but my counselor refuses to let me for some reason or another. She said I can take Honors Algebra 2 next year, but I have to take regular Geometry this year. I can take Honors Geometry just fine, but she just won't let me. What should I do?

Despite me having a 102 average for Algebra 1 my Freshman year, she thinks Honors Geometry will be too hard for me. It literally makes NO sense.

I did talk to my Algebra I teacher and he recommended me for Honors Geometry (which he also taught). Unfortunately, I don't have him to help convince my teacher any more as he's teaching abroad in Slovakia. :(

Maybe I could talk to the new Honors Geometry teacher?

I agree that you shouldn't choose your courses based on what looks good, but sometimes you will have to take a hard class that you don't like. Just because you don't like a subject doesn't mean you shouldn't challenge yourself with a higher level class.

Journalism is fine if you enjoy it and actually do stuff. A lot of electives are jokes. Yours isn't.

Try to take Honors Geometry if you can. I hear so many stories of guidance counselors giving stupid advice. So you can take Honors Alg II next year but you HAVE TO take regular math this year? Oh that makes a lot of sense. Regular math is TOTALLY better preparation for honors math!
