Hello. This is my first ever post here on CC...figured this place would give me better last-minute advice rather than somewhere like yahoo answers haha.

Anyways, mind checking out my sophomore year course list? (Freshman now)
1. English 10 HN
2. World History II HN (offer AP World but I think I would do better in just an honors class since my athletics absorb a lot of after school time)
3. Geometry
4. Chemistry
5. Leadership/SGA (requires interview/app. Not sure what I'll take if for some reason I'm not accepted)
6. Spanish III
7. Gym/Health (required)

I'm interested in mid-to-top tier schools, specifically UVA, UNC, and JMU. My grades last semester consisted of 4 A's and 3 B's in mostly honors classes. Let me know what ya'll think of my schedule; is it considered "rigorous" enough for someone with a busy after-school life who wants to get the best grades possible?

Thanks in advance. =)

Just wanted to add that I’ll actually take Intro to Marketing or some other business class if I don’t make it into Leadership.

If possible, take geometry over the summer and get into advanced algebra II. Also, take honors chemistry if it’s possible - I promise, with Khan Academy it is not that hard (unless your school’s Chem H is mysteriously difficult).’

My sophomore year looked like this:

English
Chem H
Biology H
Pre-Calc H
US History H
French III H
Wind Ensemble

I think your schedule is fine. I know a lot of people who take Geometry Sophomore year. It’s the not the most rigorous but it seems like to you, it’ll keep you from getting bored. Junior year you can double up in math, and take Algebra II and PreCalculus.

Thanks for the responses. =)

I thought about taking Geometry over the summer but decided against it (I don’t like the idea of learning the same amount of material for a year-long course in only two months). I’m doing very well in Algebra (97%-100%) and I’d rather continue to get high grades in math rather than move up too quickly and end up with C’s and even B’s. I would have selected Chem HN but to be in HN I need to have passed Geometry (which I will be taking next year). Like the math, I’d rather do well in regular than so-so in honors.

And I’m definitely not doubling up on the math later haha. I know a handful of people that got into upper-tier schools (UVA, mainly) and they only took up to Precalc in high school.
