Chem 3A
Some r5b/r1b
Math 1B
Bio 1B or Physics 8A

I am a freshman. This course load for the spring semester is 17 units, so I am a little worried this might be too much. Can anyone comment on this schedule? Thanks.

Could be. what did you take this semester.
did you take calc bc?
take r5b.

what is your major?

No… this schedule is ridiculous.

Chem 3a = ochem = massive study
R1b = massive essays
Math 1b = okay… I guess… but a lot of hw time
physics/bio = Bio = A lot of memorization… and physics needs a lot of problem sets…

If you did well 1st sem… and you think you can take it… go ahead.
But I would not recommend that schedule to anyone.

I don’t think this would be too bad. It will really depend on the r&c b class that you take and whether you are good at math. During the spring, I had taken chem 3a, bio 1b, soc 1, and math 16b. Math was easy for me and soc 1 wasn’t that writing and reading intensive so it wasn’t too bad.

Math 16b and 1B are worlds apart.

Had a similar schedule: Chem 3a, math 1b, and bio 1b and ES21AC. I’m not even sure if you can get into a r5b anymore since they fill up so quickly and people rarely drop.
Here’s the breakdown:
Chem 3a - I myself didn’t spend a drastic amount of time or even the minimum amount of time for this class, but you really should in order to understand reactions. Still ended up passing but I think that’s because of Frechet.
Math 1b - Not gonna lie, Borcherds was g. Tests were definitely all fair game as they were just homework problems twisted/changed here and there. How the other professors are though this year, i don’t really know.
Bio 1b - I would recommend this over Physics 8a just because it’s a hell lot simpler and the stuff you have to memorize isn’t too bad. Focuses on about/a little more than 1/4 of the AP Bio course (provided you had a good teacher).
ES21AC - I just slept. And then wrote papers. (3 long ones.) Interesting class when i could stay awake.

And your unit count for those classes should be 15 right? (3+4+4+4) Or are r5b classes 5 units (even then 16)?

r1a and r5a are worlds apart.

I think he wants to more than just pass. I think wolfer might want to get, perhaps, As. Which will be ridiculously difficult, if not impossible, with this schedule…

Since you’re not taking 3AL, I think you could do Bio 1B, that way you don’t have 8 hours of lab each week later on when you do take 3AL which really takes away time from studying. I would think that load is pretty balanced but probably on the tough side. If you’re doing well this semester, then you should be fine.

I will have to strongly disagree with StarryNight.

It is better to take Biology 1B with Chem 3A than with 3B.

I found this post by him on another thread

If you have AP credit for BC, you SHOULD take Math 16B instead. If you really want to do MCB then they will accept your AP credit for the purpose of declaring. Medical schools do not care between 1A-B and 16A-B.

Your brother is an idiot; he doesn’t know squat. Medical school do not care that certain majors are harder than other. To the eyes of the medical school admissions, a 4.0 MCB major is the same as a 4.0 Ethnic studies major. Anyways what you are planning looks fine, though you should look into taking 16B and making your life a lot easier

But I’m assuming he’s taking math 1a right now and so taking 16 would mean getting half the units…
And starry it’s definitely possible to get As with the schedule. I had a butt load of free time (this is assuming that OP is not taking 3a lab) which i could have put to use with studying, but I didn’t. Bio (and math 1b i guess) 1b is a little bit harder to get an A, but that’s because of the cutoffs, not the material. For Math 1b, it’s either you get the concepts and know how to apply them or you don’t, in which you should then seek help.

4 units Math 1A + 2 Units Math 16B = 6 units

That is the same number of units as taking Math 16A and B

That schedule is doable, but why cram all those classes into one semester? What the hell is the rush? You have 3 more years to finish all those classes anyway.

I don’t know why people would recommend doing 3 premed prereqs in a single semester. It will be time consuming, unless you use all your time to study anyway, which is just pathetic. Enjoy yourself a little bit, don’t load up on classes just because you can and end up getting a crappy GPA and/or no social life.

agree with tasty beef, plan out your schedule and you’ll see that you really don’t have to take so many pre-req classes in one semester. 4 years is more than enough to finish things.

Well if you’re mcb, you need to take 1 series anyways. €

not if you’ve got AP credit

i didn’t know we could AP out of Math 1 series, what the crap. already took both, oh well lol.

ap outta 1a unless you get a 5 on bc

So I didn’t get AP credit, so I have to take Math 1b. I am going to take Chem 3aL too, so my total will be about 17 units. Should I just end up taking a breadth course instead of bio or physics? That sounds like a more manageable course load, right?
