We have heard that it gets quiet on weekends...but others tell us there's lots to do. if you have any input, please share.

If your out-of-state, this school is not good. The students who go to this school from my instate public hs are usually of the lowest academic quality. It’s known to be a ‘preppy’ and ‘white’ school: that is, there is little diversity. However, they do have some good programs, such as their pre-pharm and pre-law.

I don’t agree with Armaryland17 in any way. First, you can’t generalize. There are PLENTY of high achieving kids at Towson. Is everyone high achieving? No, but they do exist.

Moreover, Towson gives more merit money that that of any other Maryland State university. Thus, they get some good quality kids there as a result.

Third, Towson has some very good, well-known programs especially in business, education, theater and music. They also have some programs that aren’t found in other Maryland state universities such as financial planning concentration within their accounting department etc.

In addition, Towson is NOT the suitcase school that you make it out to be. Yes, there are a number of kids who go home on weekends. There are also a large number of kids who stay on campus. When we visited my son during weekends, there were plenty of kids around, and there were plenty of things to do.

Finally, if you check my review of Towson in the “College Visit” section of College Confidential, you will see a lot of other information, both good and bad, about Towson.

Can anyone tell me about the campus life at Towson? I was recently accepted and plan on visiting soon. I was wondering about the social life and general satisfaction with the college by other students?

Um… how is it not good if you’re out of state? I meet a lot of people here, and a LARGE amount of them are out of state. My roommate is out of state and so, he has found, are a lot of his friends. A lot come from PA, NY, and NJ. I ask why and they say they just didn’t want to go in-state (I don’t know why they chose Towson out of a lot of other out-of-state places, but okay…) A lot of people (in and out of state) come for the occupational therapy program.

Campus life is definitely what you make of it. It’s not like at a lot of other schools where the fun comes to you. There are a lot of commuters at Towson, so on the weekends… you won’t really see too many people walking around. If you’re into partying, it takes quite a bit of networking just to know where to go. Personally, I love the friends I have made and am always active every single weekend. Of course, I know people who stay on their floor and never leave because they don’t make an effort to meet people.

I don’t think we’re all of low quality here. I got a 32 on the ACT, got accepted to College Park, wait-listed at UPenn, etc. I’m in the honors college and there are plenty of intelligent students surrounding me. There are some pretty unintelligent kids here, sure, but not all of them.
