Is Tylenol allowed in college?

Do you still need that bs parent notes and whatnot?

Lolololol this made me laugh. You’re in college they treat you like adults. You could walk across the street to your local pharmacy and get as much Tylenol as you want. Colleges won’t care

I’m laughing as well. You’re 18 years old. Don’t need notes.

You could even probably buy it in the student store tbh. I mean, I wouldn’t generally pop them in the middle of class, but any other time, who cares? The only things not allowed are of course anything illegal, which if you get caught with, no amount of parent notes would help you.

It is posts like these that remind me how much better college is than high school

Are you serious? You can’t be serious.

Is this person serious?

You’re an adult. They’re not going to care about your medicine. In fact, they expect you to take care of your own basic illnesses like the common cold. Things like being sent to a nurse’s office for a tummy ache and having them give you your medicine doesn’t exist in college.

Bruh they sell tylenol in the dorm store.

@comfortablycurt

Don’t be like that. Specifically, when I was in high school and junior high, they told us to not bring any kind of pills to school whether it was Tylenol, diarrhea pills or even cough drops. If we were caught with it, the school would file federal drug charges on us even if we had parent notes.

Federal drug charges? Lol your school was full of it. No way would a charge like that have stuck unless you literally went to school in a national park.

I’m not laughing. It was a legitimate question from someone who hasn’t been to college yet. And who may very well still be a minor when school starts in the fall.

I’ve seen some equally “laughable” questions and statements here from college kids who have no idea of what life is like after college.

OP, no, you don’t need any sort of permission for over the counter meds. So part of what you’ll want to bring with you will be the basics found in your home medicine cabinet: Tylenol, Tums, Nyquil, Pepto, bandaids, tweezers…

On a similar note, you’ll also want a basic tool kit: screwdriver,(regular and Phllips), small hammer, wrench, Command Strips…

Adding to what others have said, the only problem you may encounter is purchasing OTC drugs as a minor. When I started college, I was 17, so I brought ibuprofen, cold medicine, etc. with me from the start so that I wouldn’t need to buy them myself.

Not a dumb question at all. Like @Ranza, my son was 17 when he started college so could not buy some over the counter cold meds. I packed some just in case. Other than that, there are no restrictions on OTC or prescription drugs.

The dextromethorphan restrictions are state specific (http://www.chpa.org/dex.aspx) but the psuedoephedrine restriction is federal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Methamphetamine_Epidemic_Act_of_2005). Are there any other OTCs that minors can’t purchase?

EDIT: regardless of what the pharmacy will do, the colleges certainly don’t care about minors having DXM or pseudo.

@iwannabe_Brown another substance minors can’t purchase in certain states that might be needed at some point in college is glue: http://www.cga.ct.gov/2009/rpt/2009-R-0251.htm

Again, no college will care/think twice if you have glue or cough medicine or tylenol in your dorm (nor would they search your dorm for those substances) but you might just not be able to purchase them in the first place!

Anything over-the-counter or prescription is ok. Depending on your state, other pharmaceuticals may or may not be.

What pharmaceuticals are neither OTC or prescription?

“Recreational” ones.
