Is UChicago's social life as pitiful as it is said to be?

I am very interested in a Latin major, and I have taken interest in the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Holy Cross, and Boston College. I am also interested in UChicago partly because my Latin teacher went there and says that it does, in fact, have a great Latin department, but I wanted to hear some outside input. I would like to have a social life–I am junior in high school–and I am ranked within the top 5% of my class, but I think that there must be a balance between academics and the college party scene. There cannot be too much of either, in my opinion.

No. most of the people who say this aren’t even affiliated with the University - you said in a previous post that your cousins who go to middlebury and georgetown offered this opinion on Chicago. How exactly would they know? there’s a good reddit thread about this:

message me if you have more questions.

I’m just curious about something
What kind of workspace does a Latin major engage in?
What are the post college jobs?
I’m not very sure so just wanted to ask!

Yes. As a Classics Major, your life will be like this, all the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgYEuJ5u1K0
I kid.
UChicago has less partying than other schools but there is still plenty of it. Frats are there if you want them. A lot of people say the frats have not so fantastic parties. There are a lot of apartment parties and dorm parties and housing is extremely lenient about alcohol in the dorm.
That said the ridiculous amount of work in this school and lots of alternatives to entertain yourself with leads to less partying. Basically, UChicago isn’t a party school. Don’t come here if you want the party school experience - go to a large flagship or Stanford or Duke or somewhere where there motto isn’t “where fun comes to die.”
But if you like UChicago and want to party, but don’t mind if the volume/quality of frats is way more low key, you will certainly be able to.

Also, UChicago’s parties might be kinda bad, but honestly this is the best place in the world for getting drunk and just talking. Nearly everyone here is very, very good at talking and has a lot to say.

I know Classics majors who have gone on to be very successful on the job market post-graduation. There are parties and plenty of people who go to them, but it’s less of a factor than at other schools. It also depends a lot on your dorm - South students party much more than BJ students, for example. If you want lots of parties, you can find them, but if you don’t, they’re not intrusive enough that they’ll affect your experience.
