Is UPenn best for us neuro/bio/psych applicants?

I want to either do the Questbridge National College Match or do ED to a school. I got down to UPenn, recently it has been my top choice.

I want to go into neurology, go to a school with alot of science research opportunities, a good undergraduate focus and pre med advising..I plan to go to medical school.

I did all my research for UPenn, but I don't know if I'm too aware of what other schools have to offer compared to UPenn. Would Columbia or Yale be better for someone like me? Are any of the Ivies or other good schools better for me? Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

And location won't be too much of an issue, I can deal with a city or lack of.

It depends entirely on your focus. For descriptive, experimental psychology, especially for memory, behavior, learning, attention, and language, Penn and Yale should be your top choices. They are both historic centers of American psychological research. ESPECIALLY if you have any sort of predilection towards language, Penn should definitely be your #1 choice (it’s tops in both linguistics and psychology).

For a more biological perspective, it’s a toss-up between Columbia and Penn depending on your inclination. Penn’s bioengineering and neuroscience are both excellent - but Columbia’s is as well, and boasts Eric Kandel’s neurobiology lab (he recently won the Nobel for medicine). I won’t hesitate to say that if you’re planning on studying strictly neurobiology, Columbia has a slightly better department. However, if you’re thinking of switching your focus, Penn’s flexibility and inter-disciplinary neuroscience majors (Biological Basis of Behavior and Cognitive Science) might suit you better.

Bottom line, you can’t really make a bad choice between the three.
