I will be attending Vanderbilt in the fall, and although I am very excited, I can't help but think that I screwed myself over because I won't be attending a top tier school, such as HYP or Duke, the school I applied Early Decision to. I have very ambitious goals in my life. I'm doing premed, and I want to go to a TOP medical school. Will I be able to get into a top tier medical school with a Vanderbilt undergraduate education?, or should I be looking into transferring into HYP or a top 10 school?

Edit:
1.Yes. Work hard, get experience.
2. No. Vandy is excellent.
/end thread

Seriously??

To answer your questions:

Yes, if you do well at Vandy. Med school is about grades, MCAT and intern experience.

No.

First, congratulations on being accepted to such a prestigious university! It is my understanding that admissions were exceptionally competitive this year. Vanderbilt is an amazing school, not an ivy, but certainly considered top tier. Let this be the last time you worry about that. The opportunities will all be there for you. Your college experience at Vanderbilt will be what YOU make of it! Vanderbilt will be no hinderance in being accepted to a top medical school. That will be primarily up to your GPA and MCAT’s, which are both in your control. Best of luck, and enjoy your time at Vandy!!

Is this a legitimate question, because you have contradictory info in your past posts.

Vanderbilt is a wonderful school - it has a well respected medical school. The thing that will be the biggest hindrance to you will be your lack of appreciation for what Vanderbilt has to offer.

Oh good heavens. Vandy is a top tier school. Certainly some/many of their pre-med grads get into top med schools.

I wonder if vandy can revoke an acceptance based on common sense deficiency?

mom - I think you nailed it!

OP - Go to your room, and think about about what you posted. You can come out when you are ready to lead the group in a Go Commodores Cheer! :)

I think the OP is slightly confused…

In March they wrote a post saying they were a Jr and interested in Duke next year…
In April they wrote a post saying they’d been accepted to Tufts and Colgate and couldn’t decide…
Now Vanderbilt ED…
What’s next, Harvard Law?

My head is spinning.

OP says he/she is coming to Vandy in the fall, and was therefore probably admitted off of the waitlist.

OP - congrats on getting into Vandy. FYI, most people DO consider Vandy to be a top-tier school. You’ll also have access to Vandy’s top-tier medical school via undergraduate research programs.
If you don’t like Vandy after your first semester, apply for a transfer. However, make sure that you’re applying not to simply climb the ranks of schools, but for either academic (Vandy not having your major is about the only one that I can think of) or social reasons. The only thing that you need to worry about right now is changing your attitude. Vandy will give you all of the prestige that you’ll ever need.

Is there anyone that LOVES Duke?

I’m currently a junior and I am considering applying to Duke next year. But everyone who I’ve asked who currently goes there or went there either say they like it, it’s a fun place, or it’s ok, etc…

Duke vs. Vandy

I am going to be a senior next year, and I was planning on applying to Duke ED, but the more I research Vandy the more I like it. I am planning on doing premed and minoring in music. Duke and Vandy…

What year is this kid???

Thank you Commodore15 and everyone who gave actual responses. Why am I being investigated? Why does it matter what my real truthful situation is. Why can’t you just answer the original question?

* Why does it matter what my real truthful situation is. *

Are you serious? What do you think the point of these threads are?

Yes 10char

You ARE attending a top tier school - one of the top 20 in the country - and if you don’t get that, and don’t rejoice over your tremendous fortune in being able to go to such a great school, and if you seriously think there is going to be any kind of “deficit” in your life for not going to HYP, then you aren’t worthy of going to any top tier school.

@mom2collegekids

Yes, I am completely serious. The point of these threads is to assist anyone who has a question about anything college related. You’re telling me that it will make a difference in the response I get depending on if I actually am attending Vanderbilt in the fall or I just made it up? You seem like you have a long history on this website, so I would expect a little less ignorance from such a seemingly experienced member.

With respect to the specific question I asked, I agree that it is a little silly of a question, but unfortunately about half an hour ago I had this brief obsession with prestige and rankings, which inclined me to ask the original question.

But my point is, it doesn’t mean anything if what I’m asking is the truth or not; what matters are the answers.

I did not realize people on this site could be so harsh. Jeez. I’m sorry for asking such a stupid question. I am very lucky to be attending Vanderbilt in the fall. Sorry for offending anyone.

I want you to exhibit some common sense. Open up the phone book. Look at all the doctors listed there. There are bound to be pages and pages. Do you think they ALL came from HYP undergrad?

@Pizzagirl, I’m had this brief wave of obsession over the ivies, which I now realize was very misinformed. I’M SORRY.

Because credibility matters on an online forum. It’s just as easy to ask these questions without misrepresenting yourself. People would have been more then happy to answer the same question that started…“I am considering Vanderbilt…” If in fact this is the hypothetical and not your previous posts. If the previous posts were the hypotheticals, present them as such. You will get the same response. When people see conflicting information you loose credibility and that’s when you are likely to receive less then positive responses. Just be honest.
