-school doesn't offer honors classes, but mentions "due to the rigorous curriculum of the school, no classes are designated as honors" in school description.

My only B's have been graphic design freshman year, AP Gov last year(will a 5 on the exam atone for this), and a mandatory composition class at our school this summer? I got straight A's junior year.

-will mention Math, Economics, and Chemistry respectively as my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice majors. I want to be an investment banker or hedge fund manager when I grow up.

Recommendations: I know several teachers at my school who like me and will probably write well about me.
Essay: 1) talk about high adventure programs in Boy Scouts

tl;dr the whole thing, but you’re pretty much a match. Yay!

What exactly are you wanting out of a school, if you’re applying to Vanderbilt and also HYPSM etc.? Those schools are all reaaaaally different and you’re not going to be happy in all those different atmospheres.

I’ve heard that Vandy is more middle-of-the road, unlike the socialist powerhouses that many ivies are.

Haha, that’s not really what I mean. In that sense, yes Vandy would be more middle-of-the-road (politics-wise…). But the atmospheres at each of the schools mentioned are all totally different.

For example - I was waitlisted at Harvard when I applied, and after visiting, I immediately took myself off of the waitlist. Why? I just hated the atmosphere. The feeling of the school was not my style.

Saints 2009-

It is not too late to contact College Board to change your status so that you become NHRP eligible. I think either you or your high school counselor can do it. It is important to do so because Vandy gives money for NHRP plus there is another scholarship for which it is important. Sorry I can’t remember the name here.

Also Vandy has a program called “Mosaic” which focuses on URM admissions. I believe they give paid for fly-backs as part of the program. Search on CC and you can find more info about it. I would call the office responsible for the Mosaic program and try to get on their radar.

Does Vandy like to recruit students from the northeast? We are coming for a visit, any restaurant suggestions?

FYI Spanish (like from Spain) itself is not Hispanic but everything else is great so I’d say, yes, you’re a definite match.

saints…your stats are like most of those admitted but Vandy can’t be considered a match. Consider it to be a match/reach…as in factor in some unfairness due to the numbers of fully qualified candidates annually. There are students with your fine record who are waitlisted…I can think of two National Merit Scholars for instance with 4.0 averages waitlisted in my circle of friends.
Put in an application at a school with lower selectivity as well…someplace you would be proud to attend…and make sure to appreciate your match college.

Write good essays that show your personality and how you will contribute to the vibrant life that is Vandy’s…don’t worry about political persuasion…there are actually real Republicans and conservatives at Vanderbilt…not a minority although Obama won the student poll in 09…there were many Republican voters and there is both a liberal and a conservative newspaper on campus…not a one-note student body!

Rainbowrose

CollegeBoard.org includes “Spanish from spain” in its definition of hispanic and therefore such a student would be eligible for the National Hispanic Recognition Program and scholarships. It says it right on its website.

well i disagree with Faline

with your racial background i think it is a match. As i said on previous post, vanderbilt is trying to diversify its campus by increasing admission to minorities especially blacks, hispanics, jews (jk lol) so you have a very good chance of getting in, in my opinion.

However, with that SAT and SATII scores, i think some ivies are definitely a reach for you (as you do not have stellar extra curricular in my opinion)

oh btw vanderbilt campus is pretty conservative because it is in South. a lot of people are from South
