The book will probably not be published but will it improve my college apps?

If it isn’t published, then it probably won’t help. With the growth of free, online self publishing services, some high schoolers who have been rejected by traditional publishing houses have taken the initiative to self publish their works, so just saying that you have an unpublished manuscript is not going to do anything.

If you’re a good enough writer to consider writing a book though, you’re probably an above average writer. You should consider joining the school newspaper/literary magazine/writing club. Those will look better on your college apps than an unpublished manuscript.

Also, I don’t think this is the right forum to put this thread in, lol. Can someone who knows how to move it to the right forum please?

If its not published, it has very little credibility. Its very gutsy to try to publish a book as a high school student, but if you are truly passionate about writing and need a good EC, I would recommend starting a blog or trying to get an internship that allows you to work for a newspaper or magazine. If you do really well at this, you might have a shot of getting published by them.
Also go to your local newspaper and ask if they need any articles written, kids at my school write for our town’s newspaper all of the time. Hope this helps!
Oh and if you haven’t already, join the school newspaper (this is a given for any writer).
Chance me?

Depends on how good it is.
