Is writing about music/ playing an instrument cliche?

Would it bore adcoms?

it depends. but it is a common topic.

Usually, unless you have something really incredibly unusual to say.

@jpheys‌ Oh well it was kind of going to be a metaphor for overcoming obstacles. I was going to write about how my piano keyboard was broken so no sound resonated but that I’d practice anyway and when I moved around/went into foster care I had to leave it behind so I’d practice arpeggios/scales/chord progressions on paper and how I did the same thing with guitar(borrowed brother’s toy guitar to practice chords/scales). When I had saved enough for both it turned out I could play both proficiently which showed me that nothing can get in the way of achieving my dreams and that I’m capable of doing anything I set my mind to despite adverse circumstances. I was going to connect it to my background and use it as a metaphor to show how it’s influenced my motivation and independence…

…But I hadn’t realized it was such a common topic until I browsed through some threads on here…I’ll try to find something else to write about.

when you write about it metaphorically like that it sounds absolutely beautiful and meaningful! that is a very unique story that no one else has!

The metaphor approach has potential.

Okay I may give it a shot, I’m just afraid adcoms will think "Oh no…not another one of these…’’

You may encounter that regardless of topic.

If you were in foster care and had to practice music without a real instrument to practice on, I personally feel that would qualify as unusual and interesting. I’d say go for it.
