I’m looking into applying to WSU and when I tell my friends about it they put on that smug look like it’s such a bad choice. Based on my research WSU has an outstanding English/Writing program and that’s what I’m looking into. Is it correct?
By Usnews college rankings, Washington state university ranks 98th in English among national class university undergraduate programs and 140th among national universities overall. However, when considering these ranking systems, one should scrutinize the exact criteria schools are judged upon. Whether you trust these rankings or gather anecdotes to make your judgement is up to you.
As for whether WSU is a bad school, I won’t answer that directly. I come from a household with both a Husky parent and a Cougar parent. When I was a High school senior, each parent tried to lead me towards the school s/he went to, and after too much indecisiveness I opted to take my first 2 years at community college instead. I eventually transferred to the UW, but for all the badmouthing my mom does of good 'ole Wazzu, she needs to acknowledge that it was the Cougar parent who actually finished his degree, became the house breadwinner and owns a business generating multimillion dollar annual revenue after immigrating to the US at the age of 23, knowing 4 languages but none of them English. Regardless of school, it’ll be how you take advantage of your opportunities that’ll decide your future.
