I was looking over the WashU website, and noticed the English department had this to say:

This is on the admissions site, which left me suspicious. WashU is a school I'm considering, and I've thought about trying to pick up a major in English. I'm wondering what it means here by "nationally ranked"? Is it really that good, because I thought WashU was all about the sciences and business.

Also, I'm wondering if the English department, in general, is any good there. Does anybody know?

BUMP, I also want to know about thier English program.

But from what I'm seeing on thier website, their English program does not look too bad.

Yeah...still wondering about this. I'm sure it isn't too bad. After all, it's a top-rated university. But would it be considered really good, or just alright?

300 views, and no real response to this question???

There's got to be SOMEBODY out there who can say something about the English department and writing program, good or bad! Inquiring minds want to know!

e. annie proulx (brokeback mountain, the shipping news) was a long-term visitor, and she's one of my favorite living writers. I guess it has to be at least halfway decent...
