Is WVU somewhat of a "Southern" school?

Hi all,
I'm from Florida and have a fairly good GPA. I'm considering a few schools (mainly Georgia, WVU, UF, and UNC) and have decided to consider WVU due to its excellent history department. I have grown tired of the very preppy South and liked the fact that WVU seemed to have a lot of - let's say - "country kids." However, I was worried when I heard it had a very strong Northeastern presence - as in New Jersey culture outweighed good ol' Southern hospitality. Now I don't mind Northerners but I was hoping to go to a school where Southern presence was definitely alive without the abundance of preppy, wannabe frat boys...
Any insight by WVU students would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
From a Southerner looking for a good Southern school

Hello,

I’m going to WVU for a Ph.D., but if you want to send me messages feel free, and I will try to answer them for you.

My opinion of WVU —

large party school
some really nice people, though – look in Honors program students
join religious organizations to meet nice people
the education is ultimately what YOU make it, the history department is not top notch, but you CAN get a better education than a student at Harvard if YOU choose to – your education is ultimately your choice
souther hospitality – not as much as your southern schools

I wouldn’t really call it a southern school, but I wouldn’t really call it a north eastern school either. And actually, less than 10% of the student population is part of Greek life.
