I've heard that Yale is too liberal and won't accept conservative views. To what extent is this true? Also I've also heard about the crime rate. Is New Haven a ghetto city where you have to worry about the crime rate? please clarify these questions

oh yeah also are there a lot of gays?

Yes, it's hyperliberal and doesn't accept conservatives. The crime rate is horrible and gays are crawling all over the place polluting the few rich preppy straight boys and girls. You can't get a cup of coffee without tripping over a gay. It's horrible.

[rolls_eyes]

Go to Brigham Young!

it is the "queer ivy"

Yale is pretty liberal, but not extremely liberal (it's not like Wesleyan or Swarthmore, for instance). Yale probably has more gay students than the average college (at least that's what my overnight host said) That is neither a negative nor positive thing for me personally, but it's more positive than negative, I guess.

well if ur conservative u will definitely be in the minority...doesnt accept conservative views? well if conservative views made logical sense then maybe...=P haha

1) gays shouldnt be a problem
2) yes its a lot more liberals but they dont "not accept" conservative views. u will probably be in the minority but who cares? life doesnt revolve around politics and of course there will be the hardcore liberals who diss all the conservatives but most of the people will be accepting/tolerant.
3) yes its "ghetto" or wat people like to call it but its perfectly safe. ive visited and its a beautiful campus and u feel safe there

i'm pretty conservative and had similar concerns that my views would be stifled or disregarded, but i still applied and yale is my first choice.

i actually think it is good for conservatives to go to a more liberal school (i've done it all through high school)--it challenges you and really forces you to back up your beliefs. if you're not timid, you can come out of it all an even stronger conservative with a better understanding of both sides.

i've read that even though yale is extremely liberal, their organizations for conservative students (college republicans, party of the right and the tory party) are strong and active.

you should read "Choosing the Right College". it examines in depth the political climate of all of the top colleges

the thing is, the ivy league schools are generally known to be pretty liberal (brown most of all). however, theres definitely a very active group of conservatives on the yale campus, and from what i can tell, despite the fact that as a conservative you WOULD be in the minority, i dont believe that you would be ridiculed or oppressed for your beliefs, but rather you would be encouraged to partake in intelligent debate

My interviewer told me that Yale didnt not have this giant liberal aura hanging around....she said its not that bad....im conservative too and i asked her about it.

One in four, maybe more!

One in two, maybe you!

-regarding gays/lesbians at yale :)

Of course Yale is hyperliberal.

They have something called "sex week" at which every student is taugh to properly put put a condom on a dildo! (which, according to a book I read about Yale, can be purchased at the student store.)

is that the week where all the Vassar girls come and alcohol flows like water and everyone has sex?

see? there's your yale heterosexual impulses for ya imiracle911 ;)

haha, of course

cuz everyone KNOWS vassar girls don't get any from all the flamers at their college

Yeah, someone I know who went to Vassar (a guy who's not gay) got asked out by a guy. I think I've said this before though. I'm becoming one of those old people who keep re-telling stories.

Does anyone know Margaret Cho, the comedian? The phrase "a gay" reminded me of what she said her mother once said about a guy: "Is he the gay? (in a korean accent)"
"I don't know, Mom, if he's THE gay, I mean, that's a pretty big responsibility."

is yale hyperliberal: in short, yes.
but there are conservatives too.

Alright brace yourselves for a funny story (it's really not that funny). A guy who went to my school two years ago and is now an officer of the Yale Liberal Club (don't remember the name of it. is that it?) came to one of the English classes over his winter break and told them a funny story which someone told to me. He and a friend were going to different dorm rooms getting people to sign petitions for something (i think it was gay marriage). They knocked on one door and a girl answered who became very annoyed and argumentative with them when they asked her to sign the petition. They were surprised until they saw the name on her wall: B. Bush.

Don't know if this story is true but it sounds funny. Someone he told it to told me, so I don't know how stretched it was. Anyway, to answer your question, there are many conservatives on campus. The end.

I think it would be easier to be a conservative on a liberal campus than a liberal on a conservative campus...if liberals are accepting, shouldn't they accept conservatives?

What's the big deal about sex week? People are being taught about safety. We learned to put condoms on wooden pen ises in tenth grade, and I just watched a documentary about porn in history class. I don't see why people make such a big fuss over those things.

i don't know any gay people and is kind of biased/scared of them. I kind of scared that I will be forced to become gay, forced gay sex. Would this be a problem?

YES! Gay rape initiation occurs during the first night, after that it is a mass drunken gay and straight orgy with drugs and alcohol

What Idiocy!!!!!!!!!!

hahaha imiracle, that's the funniest thing i've heard all day.
