Is your kid still working on his/her college applications?

Gifted son was a procrastinator- and would only complete a few applications. Gosh, It’s been ten years by now. He got the Stanford one in by the midnight California time deadline (he was up until 2 am on a school night). His flagship safety was applied to in January, with a quick acceptance. He wouldn’t finish one app father wanted him to. We never got to see them- our input was the credit card and nagging. The hindsight of a twenty something… Couldn’t make strong willed kid do our bidding (he is like his parents).

I like Thumper’s post #17 response. And SlackermomMD’s last words The world will not come to an end if they go to X instead of Y school, or your flagship. It is frustrating for parents, but thank goodness it is up to the student.

Thankfully no. He goes to boarding school so I was not as hands on with the process, but he only applied to two schools and he wanted to get them done early. I think one of his English classes actually allotted time for the senior students to work on applications, so that was helpful. He got his acceptances early and he says it is a great relief to know where he’s going when so many others are waiting on acceptances still.

D just finished her last essay for the schools with 1/1/16 deadlines. She still has some to go, but those deadlines are a bit later. She will submit the 1/1/16 schools tomorrow. I think she only finished because I said she is not going out for New Year’s Eve unless they were done!

I found it easier to encourage my kid to submit every application before November 1, regardless of whether or not it was a RD or EA application. Then there was no worrying. Ten submitted, five acceptances, several major merit awards received before December 15, and now a few left for RD to hear from. Much easier this way.

Some kids feel they work better under the pressure near the deadline. Alas, they often underestimate the application workload, so we feel your pain.

You can try reminding the procrastinators that they need some buffer time since your home internet access and the school’s website are not 100% reliable. But it may fall upon deaf ears. Good luck.

I said earlier that I wasn’t going to stress but, lo and behold- I can’t understand why DS does this!

2 apps are due tomorrow at midnight & 1 is due on Sunday. He has started part of 1 & nothing on the other 2. Geez!

Then again, if they are not done- I guess that saves me +$150.00.

My daughter has a couple of acceptances, a couple of applications completed in the last day or two, and 2or 3 more that she says she plans to submit (but the RD deadlines are in February, I think). She has applied all over the country (but no where in-state or anywhere close to home) and currently doesn’t seem to have a favorite, so I’ll definitely encourage her to just go ahead and finish them all. I have a feeling she’ll be making a decision about where to go on April 30.

Mine got 1 done, due tomorrow. It looks like U Of Chicago postponed till the 8th of January. So he will not touch that one. 1 is due Saturday and 2 are due Sunday. His excuse is that he needs time to think. Btw, he is only productive after midnight.

S finally finished yesterday. He ended up dumping 3 apps. Yay! Nice dinner out on that savings! I’m just glad he is done for now. Tho he now has to do an essay for Michigan Honors. Always something!

@QueensMom. the Common App has been known to go down on high volume days. I would make her submit today for the 1/1 apps.

12 down, 2 to go. He is doing final editing on last two essays now. We will be done in one hour. Yay!!

D16 submitted 3 yesterday. In total, she’s submitted 11. Two are due tomorrow. Two more are due Tuesday. One more due Jan. 15. Then there are two of the 11 that will require supplements due early February. Not to mention the one last hack at SAT subject test scores on Jan. 23.

The common app was getting a little slow while I was paying yesterday. Hopefully it won’t freeze up tonight or tomorrow when the two due tomorrow are submitted.

We’re taking a nice vacation in March, so at least there’ s a light at the end of the tunnel before results come in.

D applied to six schools early, was accepted at all of them, and has decided to not submit any of the RD apps she was planning to do. November was stressful with all the early deadlines, but I am so glad she did it this way.

One of the schools she decided not to apply to was her first choice as of last summer, but it only had ED and not EA. Since we had to compare financial offers, that one had to wait. I find it interesting that she has just decided not to bother applying at all, but I think she is getting as tired of the process as we are.

That nice vacation in March will be right when results are due. My D2 had a couple of schools that notified via snail mail still, and it was stressful knowing the answers were waiting at the post office!

Regular Decision apps are due in 27 hours for me; I’m still filling out my Common App.

Not only is my D still working on them, but for the first time in months her room is clean, her bathroom is clean, and all her laundry is done. THAT is how much she doesn’t want to work on the apps. At this point, I think a few schools may be forced to come off the list thereby saving me some bucks. Woohoo!

My son doesn’t get up until 2pm every day. Talk about getting anything done.

((HUGS)) to you all.

All but one 1/1/16 submitted. The last one is finished but D is out with friends and will submit later. She has 3 due the 15th and one due February 1. I think she’s in good shape.

Got 3 submitted tonight, whole day ahead of deadline. Has EA acceptance from one of her top choices already so these are all gravy. She might do one more tomorrow but highly doubtful. I think we’re done!!!
