ISEE test

I noticed that this test can only be taken every 6 months. For 7th grade admission, is it best to take it once? If taken more than once does it look bad? Do they average the scores together? Thanks.

Have you (or your kid) already taken it? If not, you aren’t going to get the chance to take it more than once, because most schools have application deadlines in January. To repeat the test, you’d have had to take it earlier this year and the vast majority of kids haven’t done that. If so, I would repeat if the scores weren’t great, because much of the algebra and geometry is just starting to be introduced at school, so hopefully the additional few months of school will help.

If you took the exam and already knew algrebra and geometry, you probably crushed it, so not sure why you’d need to take it again.

Thank you. I have a fifth grader. So I was wondering if he should/would take it this Spring and then again in the Fall of 6th grade.

For some reason I thought schools only take ISEE results from the current school year (year of application). But, I don’t know where I got that. If it were me, I’d have him take it in the Spring or early summer, as a practice run to see where he may need to improve. Then, take it again in the fall (6 months later) for the actual application process.

eta: That is what I would do, if I had it to do over. It’s not what we actually did. Hindsight is 20/20.

ne3902 - this was mentioned in your other thread, but I will repeat here- Milton Academy’s big entry year is 6th grade, so you may want to have your 5th grader take the test just to have the option of applying.

We’re a year ahead of you in the sense we have a 6th grade boy and we’ve just completed the circuit of open houses. We were really impressed by Milton academy and wish we’d gotten our act together a year ago. We were told that they expect to admit “0-3” kids for 7th grade.

A little off topic - can anyone tell me if there is an advantage one way or another for submitting the ISEE scores instead of the SSAT?

Thank you all. I thought we were getting a jump on things but I wish I had started planning a little earlier. Thank you for the Milton information, I had assumed 7th entry point was the big entry. While it is very tempting to scramble and try for it, I think we will stay focused on RL!
