Isolation

Several questions about Kenyon. Gambier is a reportedly a tiny town. Do students feel isolated? Do they go into Columbus which seems to be the closest city?

Kenyon has a fair number of international students but its student body is predominantly white. What is life like for Asians, Afro-Americans, and other miniority students? Do they feel integrated into the larger college community?

Thanks.

One can feel a bit isolated at times, but there are lots of things to do 45mins(Easton Mall) -1hr away in Columbus. Even the short trip to Mt. Vernon can bring fun if you know what to do(LG Dairy, Fiesta, the diner on the square). I even spent two summers in Gambier and I survived just fine. I never had a car, beyond my last summer, but it would be nice to have one the whole time for flexibility. That said, most students don't go off campus/use their cars that often.

A minority would only feel like an outsider if they chose to be one. I am white, and two of my best friends were Asian...I don't feel that was a unique situation. If you are friendly, it doesn't matter as per your background in any regard.
