hey everybody! i just got this letter today inviting me to apply to the ISP program. im really excited, but does anyone know if this has standing concerning admission?

You're not only in, but one of the more promising students! congrats! (ISP is a great program, with the best advisor in the school)

edit: I'm current ISP student by the way, not just messing with you.

fae, I was going to ask the same question! I thought chances of admission looked pretty good after reading the letter, but it does say that you still have to wait to see if you are admitted. Radiant hall, can you tell us more about the program, why do you like it?

can you clarify exactly what ISP is? are you class of 2011?

Interdisciplinary Science Program. I am an applicant for the class of 2011.

Don't turn down an ISP invitation unless you hate science and your potential major has nothing to do with science! It's one of the best seminars offered with one of the best advisers.

About whether or not it means you got in, I can't comment since I do not know.

Being selected for ISP (or guided studies, the city program, or interarts) has no standing on admissions at Trinity - you were selected by a group of science faculty who see you as having qualities right for the program, but besides those faculty having seen your application there is no further discussion between the ISP faculty and admissions, congrats though.

Also, not to get your hopes up, but I doubt the ISP faculty would waste time extending an invitation to a person they didn't think stood a good chance of admission, but I got no personal experience to back that up.

hey thanks so much guys...yaaayy im really excited. yeah, i'll definitely be sending the reply soon - i want to go into the sciences like whoa, so the program sounds like an incredible experience. chacha, what do you want to study? congratulations btw!

Engineering, I think biomedical, but I really love chemistry. I am not sure yet, I like science and math, and love doing stuff in the lab. How about you?

thats awesome. i think it's going to be pre-med for me. yeah, the lab opportunities sound so amazing.

fae, in the letter they want us to write for ISP they want us to include past experience. I haven't had the opportunity to do any research, and I haven't worked in a lab except for school. How about you?

oh, same. i mean...well, i became an EMT over the summer, so i have a tiny bit of experience with emercency medicine/ER stuff, but thats it...same, i havent worked in a lab except for school. and of course, no research. huh. i dont really know.

Don't fret if you do not have a lot of lab experience as long as your love/passion for science shows through your application. Not too many people have actual research experience, but that is hardly the point of ISP.

That's good to hear, I was a little worried when I read that they wanted me to write about my intrest in science AND my research experience. There seems to be so many people who post on these boards who have incredible experience already, and I didn't think I would be able to compete with them.

Yeah, yesterday I got a letter inviting me to apply for the "The Guided Studies Program: European Civilization"
So I'm sort of assuming I'm in...which makes me really excited :)
but, I have absolutely no interest in European History, I wish I got invited to the Interdisciplinary Science Program. :( oh well.
I'm still very excited. :)

Ah, so today in the mail I got an invitation to "The Cities Program" which is great...def interested in that...let's see if tomorrow I get invited to apply for the Science one! ahh

There is nothing that says you can't contact the head of IDP and ask to be invited ... it's kinda awkward but if you really want to be in the program I would get in touch with whoever is needed to do so.

I got invited to apply to InterArts... but not the science one. Is their certain criteria for this? I had a summer internship at a pharmaceutical company in a biology lab...I'm sort of confused as to why I wasn't invited? :(

I am not sure why they invite who they do, but perhaps it is based on the major you are interested in and your test scores... just a guess.
