IT or Business...Or both

Right after high school, I jumped straight into the workforce. I got extensive sales/collections/phone/management experience. After multiple years doing that in the retail setting I moved to the corporate setting. I currently have a lower management position at my corporate office. I make decent money for where I’m at especially for my age. Now my company pays for school so I want to take advantage of that opportunity. Ideally I am working towards my MBA. I just don’t have much knowledge on college or the road to get there. I like computers and programming and software but I don’t have much of that on my resume besides the business function. For the job I have it is required to have Bachelors in Business but do to my experience that was disregarded. Now I want to continue to grow my resume with an education. I want a degree that opens doors for me for higher level business management and leadership / but also I would like some IT doors open as well as that’s what I like. Something that I could use to grow in business but also where I could leave and go into upper level IT world maybe software design or IT project manager. I’ve been researching some Majors that encompass both and I’ve come across the following majors: Business Information Systems/ Information Technology Management/ Management Information systems. Are these all basically the same, would one of these be what I’m looking for. What I’m thinking is something like associates in business  Bachelors in Management information systems  MBA in Business Leadership. Please advise any advice or ect.

Yes, if you are wanting to work in IT in a business setting, those are the right majors. Largely the same thing, you would need to compare programs across universities to see the differences. If you want an even more technical, math-based degree then try computer science. But the MIS degree is fine, especially if you already have some work experience.

For an MBA, leadership is fine. There are also some schools that offer technology management concentrations. Entrepreneurship can also be beneficial. Lots of options depending on your interests and goals.
