So it’s possible that freshmen will be given upperclassmen roommates? Crap…I wanted to share the freshman experience with my roommie! But I can also see how it would be annoying for upperclassmen to be stuck with 1st year people, lol

^ True that.
So there letting people know already?

Well so far, they haven’t told me who my roommates are. They just told me they had to put me with two freshmen, and extended my deadline to cancel my contract without penalty.

I’m sticking with the dorms though … it won’t be too bad being with two freshmen. I’ll be able to boss them around much easier :P

I got the same email as rattlehead.

Hmm, I got an e-mail that extended the cancellation deadline until tomorrow (Aug. 4th), and another one offering me a spot in a Wada apartment triple (I’m only a sophomore). I didn’t see anything about rooming with two freshmen though. All summer I’ve been thinking that it WOULD be nice to have another sophomore in the room, so this is really getting my hopes up crosses fingers. I really want to find out who my roommates are already!

I got the extended housing cancellation email. However no news on me being roomed with freshmen. Can any of you post the rooming with freshmen email just a snippet of it?

BTW- I got a unit 1 triple room suite offer.

I only got the e-mail about being roomed with two freshmen. I wish they offered me a spot in the Wada Apartments though, that would be nice.

here you go

I also got the email about rooming with two freshman as a transfer student. I don’t mind though. I want the freshman to be my goons.

That’s very interesting. My S got the same email. He is a transfer student and will be rooming with two freshmen. And they offering to cancel the contract, if he wants. Kind of strange, why they need to do this? Several transfers received this email, so why not to switch them or not to do that on the first place, transfers with freshman. My son got triple in unit 3. Is there any way to change it?

I wouldn’t boss them around because you once were a freshmen so be nice bc they look up to you.

@Lubatab-- maybe it’s because the two freshmen (or any of the pairs of freshmen listed above) requested each other as room mates & the university tried to sort of accommodate their request by putting them in a triple mini suite. . .?

Mcshelvy- It would be easier to accept if it was a mini suite. But it’s a regular triple unit. Wondering, what other transfers with the same situation going to do?

@lubatab: sorry-- I don’t even know why I wrote “triple mini suite”! A regular triple unit with two freshmen really does sound awful. I’m actually an incoming freshman myself, so I don’t know much about housing-- but perhaps you might look at off-campus housing? It actually sounds a lot cheaper in many cases. wesley house or kluegel house, for example. Good luck~

Just because they look up to me doesn’t mean they have the privilege of me being nice to them.

Just kidding :D

I’m sure I’ll get along fine with them. Plus, if they wind up being very, very stupid and unbearable, I guess that’s what the RA’s are for. But I doubt it would get to the point where I’d feel the need to talk to an RA.

three words - befriend with alcohol (if you’re over 21).

I do not condone underage drinking.

I just got an email from Berkeley Housing (not on my Calmail but my regular personal email). It said I had the opportunity to switch to a Unit Quad and they’d give me an extra $250 on my Cal1 card if I did so, aside from the rent difference between the two dorms. They said I that, if I did decide to move, I would stay in the Quad until more space opened up in the Units and then I’d move into the Units later…

Anyone else get that?

i got it. I think everyone in foothill got it, that is based on literally nothing though. Good that is it cheaper and in units. But that you wont be in one spot so you wont have that dorm bonding with your building because you will be moved, and you could go back to foothill.

Yes, that’s the biggest thing for me; you’ll bond with the people in your Quad, then you’ll all get separated and might even go into completely different buildings. And, once you’re in your new building, you’ll be the newcomer and have to do the bonding all over again while everyone else already knows each other…lol, maybe I’m overthinking it? But I wanna stay at Foothill, it’s quiet and a pretty dorm xD

no thats exactly what i was saying. Everyone says foothill isnt as social, but it will be as social as you make it. But if you start in one spot and come to another after everyone has bonded and grouped up, it will be harder to meet everyone. All of my friends say the first week/weekend is the most important for dorm bonding.
