I first found CC when my oldest son was a senior in high school, and how I wished I had found it earlier.

Anyone else still here from that far back? And what are your students doing as they prepare for their ten year reunions?

Anyone else still here from that far back? And what are your students doing as they prepare for their ten year reunions?

My daughter is a HS class of 2003. They are planning a summer reunion. I’m surprised not more of her friends aren’t married. I’d say less then half. Since graduating from HS my daughter has lived in four different states and one other country. She went on to grad school after working three years and landed a good job in her field. Most importantly, she’s happy. :)

I found CC sometime between her junior and senior year but this BB was not like it is now and many of us migrated here from Princeton Review bulletin board which had some nasty trolls. CC really helped when I was looking for colleges for my next two kids. I learned about small colleges with interesting majors then I ever would have found on my own. I also learned about merit aid, which was soooo important!

Yay for the parents of CC HS class of 2003!

DS is high school class of 2003. Its hard to believe ten years have gone by already! I found this site just after his college search…I think! He now has a masters degree. As noted above…this site was invaluable to us when looking for schools for DD. in fact, her college was recommended by a poster on this forum…and her first oboe teacher in college was a poster here too!

DS is high school class of 2003. After a BA in psych completed an accelerated BSN in nursing doubling his salary and doing the work he loves. Starting ARNP in psych this fall. He or his girlfriend seem to be in a wedding every few weeks.

Interestingly, his college friends all seem to be settled in careers, buying homes and condos. Hoping younger DS and college friends will be doing as well economically 10 years out!

My oldest of five was hs class of 2003, although I didn’t find cc until a few years later. Fortunately, his hs guided him well, and he won a merit scholarship that allowed him to attend his first choice school. He is currently serving in Afghanistan.

My S is class of 2012, D is 2013. I keep thinking, “Ok, I’m done with CC.” And here I still am.

But you guys are scaring me. What will I be doing in 2023? Will I still be a parent on CC?

Madaboutx, My youngest was HS class of 2011 and my middle child was HS class of 2006 so I stuck around for them. The cafe is where I mostly hang out now. I think most of us had younger kids if we’re still here now. :)

My daughter is HS 2003. Her arts boarding school is planning a 10th reunion for this fall. I did not find CC until my 2nd kid’s search 2 year’s later. I tease my daughter that I don’t know how she ever got into college without me being on CC!

She graduated with a vocal performance degree from Rice and is now an Episcopal Priest!

Wish I had found CC back then, if nothing else to get my S to think about schools in different ways. He is HS class of '03. As it is, he did have a good undergrad experience and has had a GREAT grad school experience. Graduation next week, UCSD. No firm job yet, as the sequester is making things hard for those who interned with, and wanted federal employment. But he has minor jobs this summer in his field, to add to the resume.

Kathiep, you’ll appreciate this. The grad school Chinese GF has her parents coming from China for their mutual graduation. So am dusting off my rudimentary Chinese, once again.

Daffy, I am an RN, and the young folks where I work are all getting married, buying houses. In my S’s world, I’m seeing this happen in a much slower fashion, if at all.

S1 graduated in 2003, worked for a couple of years at a job he liked very much, and the employer paid for his MBA and his masters in education. He married his college sweetheart–

Last year they moved to my DIL’s hometown for her to get her MBA. She graduates next week. My son was able to get his dream job in Boston as well. In the meantime–they gave me my first grandchild this spring.

They seem to be on a much more traditional track than many of their friends, and more so than my other sons. Not sure why. But they are happy, and forging their way…and that is what we want for our children.

GL Mom - That China experience really was a life changer wasn’t it? My daughter also put her China residency to good use. She works for an organization that places Chinese teachers in schools around the US and hopes to go to China to help with the recruiting process sometime and her major in grad school was International Education. (Better you then me with speaking Chinese!)

Why do our kids seem to be having so much more fun with their careers than we did at their age?

M older d is H.S. Class of 2003. She graduated college with a double major in studio art and art history, has an MFA in Painting & Drawing. She is an adjunct faculty member in studio art at a small college in NJ, she has a full-time job at a prominent museum in NYC in public programming, has an art studio residency and has been in a few gallery shows although not too recently and lives with her boyfriend. It has been a bit of a struggle financially for her as the museum job is her first full-time job. She had a museum job when she finished her MFA also but it was 30 hrs a week and she was also working as a adjunct.

Wow, bookmama…she is still doing better than many with fine arts degrees. Her talent and drive are obvious.

Thanks so much boysx3… that’s what I tell my DH… we also have younger d, actress/singer/nanny/children’s music/theatre/movement instructor… thankfully we are still able to cover her under our health insurance until she turns 26 a year from now…

My HS Class of 2003 S will also have his HS reunion this fall, apparently. Though I didn’t find CC until S2 in 2005, S1 did ok for himself. He graduated UChicago in 2007 with a degree in Sociology and worked in real estate and policy for two years. He then headed back for a joint JD/MUP (Urban Planning) and graduated two weeks ago. After the bar exam he will be working in real estate for a law firm in NYC.
