Since I live alone, I don’t bother lighting the menorah. But I am scheduled to meet daughter and her fiance at her future in-laws’ house on Thursday, and I guess it’s time to buy some potatoes and onions. Mine are heavy on the onions.
I’ll be making them sometime this week. TBD.
I love latke but I don’t make them…these look amazing!
Lots of onions, and I fry in a cast iron pan. But what a mess!
If you don’t want to make them (and the mess) check your frozen food section. I got some on a whim a few years ago, and they were excellent!
Happy Chanukah!
I’ll be making them tomorrow for son’s last night of his visit. And probably once more towards the end of the week for just the two of us.
Picture is from last year.
And if you have a small, poorly vented apartment, you’re living with the smell well past the eighth day, oy!
The advantage of living in San Diego; we can air out the house after the holiday.
My mother, and then my MIL was “in charge” of making them, I just never picked up the desire as much as I love them.
I do recall seeing them at Trader Joe’s recently…
I am not Jewish, but I do like latkes. Heavy on the onions, and crispy, sounds great to me.
We are a blended and family. My brother who is quite an accomplished cook now swears by the waffle iron for his latkes. They are coming to visit next week and I’m hoping he will make them for us!
Happy Holidays everyone!
@Marilyn, so glad to hear your son is visiting. I recall COVID being a real problem for him.
I would be interested to know how he makes them. Not that I have a waffle iron! Just curious.
Sounds easy…and I have a waffle iron! This one is from Eating Well…so a lot less oil…and no frying!
No, but I will be eating them tonight as we join friends for their celebration - yum!
I was planning latkes for xmas eve and this waffle iron recipe sounds perfect! Thanks for posing!
I will find out from him! I can assure you that the process is not to save calories and no sacrifice on flavor - it just seemed to really work! I do think he has a bad a_s waffle iron.
@abasket my kid has an All Clad waffle iron. I can’t imagine you can get better than that!
I looked one one of his old posts. He has a Nordicware waffle iron. Uses Mark Bitmans NYT recipe largely but also adds some potato starch and baking powder (apparently a Melissa Clark tip). About 1/4 cup of latke and 4 mins or so a side until crispy.
Happy Hanukkah. We will have them though out the week. Our kids were here last week so made some them for them.
