Friend got in:
In state with a 3.24 Weighted GPA, test optional, tons of extra curriculars and volunteering, and a 2 year gap year. Application was marked complete 9/20 and he got in today (12/15)
Also to those asking about housing the iu housing application for dorm living should open early February for incoming freshman. Apply early for best chances of getting what you want it has absolutely been first come first serve in the past and while they will place late applications you typically don’t get what you wanted.
Admissions posted a To-Do on my Ds portal this afternoon. She needs to show she took pre-calc, but she didn’t (not a math kid, but very strong in Lang Arts). At least it was good to know they looked at her application already, but I guess she will have to withdraw:(
Update: she got a congrats - Direct Admit to Media School email today!
If DD got SSA invite to apply for Honors and Media School scholarships - then she’s a direct admit to the Media School, right?
(she hasn’t yet received a direct admit letter…realize that can take several weeks.)
And thank you to those who shared your perspectives on the campus & community! Can’t wait to visit. May watch some virtual tours tomorrow / Thursday during the nor’easter
are you sure that they require pre calc?? on the admissions requirements (at least last i checked); while pre calc was highly recommended, it wasn’t required for general admission. maybe Kelley for direct admit??
No, I’m not sure because I thought the same as you! She’s not Kelley at all, I think she did undecided or Communication. She emailed her AO, we’ll see what happens.
ahh i see. the website says: " 7 credits (semesters) of mathematics, including 4 credits of algebra and 2 credits of geometry (or an equivalent 6 credits of integrated algebra and geometry), and 1 credit of pre-calculus, trigonometry, or calculus"
Yes, but I can also find a page on their site that says “should complete” those 7 credits instead of “required”. To me, that means there may be wiggle room. It’s strange that 2 different pages on their site say 2 different things…I took a screen shot just in case.
So true. Virtual learning (the lack of in-person contact) has really been hard mentally and emotionally on my son. While he’s an introvert, he really enjoys in-person class because it’s ready-made seeing people. Both of his sports have been moved (and who knows if those seasons will happen). I totally felt for the Class of 2020, but a few months is nothing like a whole year (so far) of cancellations and disappointment for class of 2021. These college acceptances are one happy spot.
Separate email will come from Kelley - my OOS son is waiting on this as well after being admitted to IU on Nov 24 and meeting the direct admit criteria. Before then you are classified as “Pre-Business” in the portal.
My D got a generous merit scholarship, but not enough to justify going OOS, are there any other scholarships available to Kelley direct admit students? I don’t think she applied for the one she got.
There are plenty, especially if she is a minority. They are through the SSA. And yes, the Dean’s scholarship that you received is the automatic merit scholarship for out of state students.
