My UW freshman applied to both so we are quite familiar with each school. UW stronger overall school, IU better B school. I would search the IU site for info on finance at Kelley, as a direct admit you are in a good position already. At UW, they do very few direct admits and my son has many friends feverishly working to keep their gpas up for application to B school spring of freshman year.

Personally, I think Madison is a better college town than Bloomington (heresy to some, I know). My son enjoys that Madison is a bigger urban area and the state capital, with all the internships, protests, etc. Bloomington is about 8 very streets, with some great restaurants (and bars) and then blends into suburban life. Madison is an active smaller city.

Weather generally better in Bloomington. My son, raised in the midwest and familiar with long, unpredictable winters, says Madison is a whole new level of cold (good thing he didn’t wind up at Minnesota-Twin Cities). Spring comes earlier to Bloomington, winters not as bitter as Madison.

How important is travel access? UW is about 2 hours from Chicago O’Hare, with a coach bus that runs regularly between campus and O’Hare. Bloomington is about 45-60 minutes from Indy which has a smaller airport with, obviously, fewer connections than Chicago.

Somewhat higher participation in greek life at Bloomington, roughly 25% vs. about 10% at UW. My son says UW football games, with all the tradition (and pre-gaming), are great. Basketball, not football, is a big deal at IU. At both schools, high percentage of students move into apartments after freshman year.

If there is any chance you might move out of business, UW stronger generally across different disciplines. Otherwise, IU probably better for business.

Good luck, either school will provide great opportunities and experiences.
