mcel, they have 3 years of marks to look at to evaluate, plus scores, essays, guidance rec. etc., I am sure they look at all of that and make their decision. Plus, they contacted us first with a priority app. We would not have applied there otherwise...it just wasn't on the radar for us before. We'll see if any scholarship money comes thru before making a decision.

Dindune-
Last year when DS checked on line the screen said " Congratulations! welcome to the Tulane Family" or something like that. Maybe what is coming in the mail will be good news! Good luck.

Yay! My D was accepted yesterday. She sent in her app on 9/9. So, just three weeks!!!!!!

is you submit your common app early action is that the same as submitting the personal app

no, you have to use the personal app to receive the no fee, no essay, answer in 4 week deal

Unless they changed something, newken, thats not correct. Last year the common app had no fee for Tulane. Students who selected the EA option heard back in a few weeks.

Acceptance letter came today. 24,000/yr scholarship and honors program.
We may just have to go for a visit! Yahoo!

wow, dindune, congrats! we are waiting for our letter--keeping my fingers crossed that it looks like yours!

i got offered the personal application but chose to use the common app instead so i could send my essay. last tuesday (the 31st) i saw that they had all the parts of my app and today i found out i got in! now i'm waiting for the formal letter

still haven't gotten our letter! D was accepted on 9/27. i called the admissions office today and they said it would be sent in the next few weeks!!!!! is this their "pat" response?

Ds's letter came about 2 weeks after the on line acceptance. I am sure they are working as fast as they can!

The invitation for the personal application says no formal essay but it seems that a personal statement is required. Can someone please tell me what the difference between the two is since they both seem to be the same thing. Thank you.

For those of you who have S/D with acceptances, can you provide any info on grades/SATs/etc? My S just sent in his app. They've figured out how to raise the number of applicants by making it unbelievablly easy to apply. Are they being super selective?

kuzug -- I agree with you. My son ended up using the essay for the common app as his personal statement (and he got accepted).

stillnadine--my D has an unweighted 3.25 average (all honors classes, school does not rank, I would guess her weighted average is about 3.6), 2080 SAT, 29 ACT and was accepted and offered merit $. She has a really solid activity list and if you don't mind a little bragging--I think her essay/personal statement is a winner. I know another student who was deferred--I think with a weighted 3.7 and a 26 ACT. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Per the Common App web site, Tulane does not consider the essay.

From my reading of the tea leaves, I think they are accepting those with top stats (the cream) as well as those they have a sense will actually attend (as their yield is low and the cream is more likely to have other attractive offers).

Can one apply to this under the terms of Yale’s Single Choice Early Action program?

In other words, is this considered “rolling admission at a state school?” or just early action

fiz - you are either in the wrong place or very confused. Besides, this is an old thread.

Hey guys, I actually have a question about this whole Personal Application deal.

I’m a junior right now and I already got a Personal Application from Drexel University (I’m not interested at all in attending, though). However, I am very interested in Tulane.

How do I sign up for Tulane’s mailing list so I can get these types of mail from Tulane?

Also, when is the deadline for sending in Tulane’s Personal App? I still haven’t taken my SAT or PSAT and I have many AP tests and some subject tests yet to be taken. Also, my junior year GPA isn’t even calculated yet. Can the personal app be sent in the same time as a regular decision app?

Thanks so much!

println,

Several options. Whne you take the PSAT in Oct and the SAT, be sure to check the “yes” box that allows them to send your scores to schools in general, as many look at the scores on this list and your mail will start to burgeon with college mail. Also, you can send your SAT scores for free to up to 4 schools, if you feel ready to do that. You can select Tulane as one of your 4 and that will show interest. Also, be sure to go to local college fairs and get on mailing lists, and go on the Tulane website to see if they list what cities the college reps are visiting and when they will be there. If they will be in/near your city, GO. This is a good start. Good luck.
