Ive heard about safety issues?

Hows safety on school? I've heard something about a bunch of robberies and other crime on campus???

I’ve been there a lot lately and I’ve never felt unsafe. It’s an urban campus, so obviously just anyone can wonder onto campus, but the area of Minneapolis that the U of M is in is probably 10-12 blocks from any neighborhood that’d be considered even remotely dangerous. Some kid did just get shot outside of Centennial, but that’s rare.

This was my recent response to another thread

As a current freshman I’d be totally interested to hear these horror stories. The only thing that I found terrible/remotely unsafe for me, would be the fluke shooting or the robbery in the business school. Outside of that, I don’t understand what you can find dangerous if all of the robberies happen off campus anyway. The U has its own police force that is always out in numbers. You’re considering a school in an urban setting, of course you will expect crime. I have yet to feel unsafe here, but if a very low number of incidents compared to other urban areas makes you feel that way maybe you should reconsider leaving the safety of your home and parents, or going away for college in general. I know that sounds “mean”, but welcome to the real world. If you expect nothing bad to ever happen near you, good luck.

The bottom line is the U is a very safe school compared to most urban campuses. I wouldn’t let infrequent, fluke issues turn you away from this university.
