I've made up my mind, going to UCSD unless someone can talk me out of it...

i think most people, especially those from socal, mistaken what "the bay" is. UCD is NOT in the bay. It's way up north near Sactown.

Ogi, retire from uncomfortable settings. Go to UCSD. :D

Deff come down to SD. It's the place to be. I don't know about you...but I'd think twice about living next to a moo-moo farm. X__X;;

Yayayaya. Another SoCalian...[: LOLOL.

Best of luck, I know you'll love it here in SD.

lol that's great about the area, I understand SD is a much nicer place than Davis, but I'm purely interested in the difference between engineering departments (and more specifically, mechanical engineering).

Ogi

I go to SD and my roommate is a mech eng major. I can't tell you much about hands on work in the classroom, but I can say that the labs at UCSD are great. These include the classes which teach you how to work in labs (most of them are teamwork oriented) and the facilities themselves.

Also, if you join the right clubs (like Teams in Engineering), you'll be sure to get the experience you want. I'm in the astrophysics club and we're currently building a 12 inch dosbonian telescope from basically the ground up. And there are only 4 people in the club. So yeah, pretty awesome.

Anyway, best of luck getting in and maybe I'll see you there.

That sounds awesome. The quintessential example of something practical and hands-on.

That telescope project sounds great. If I make it down there, and you guys want some engineering majors in your club, I'll be sure to join.

Now, your project is getting some funding I hope.

Ogi

UCD does not smell like cow dung every morning. -_- I lived on campus and it wasn't even that bad. Occasionally, yes you can smell it, but that's only if you're around tercero area. I guarantee you once you're biking/walking on campus, you won't smell it. Besides, since you're an engineering major, you'd probably end up spending most of your time inside Kemper Hall (the engineering building; others tend to say that engineering students "live" there)

"san diego = beautiful weather/ beautiful people."

la jolla is slightly different.
