I’ve taken both the PSAT and the PLAN test this year (I am a sophomore), and I got the following scores on the tests:
PSAT English: 61
PSAT Math: 68
PSAT Writing: 57
PLAN English: 24 (14 Usage/Mechanics, 12 Rhetorical Skills)
PLAN Math: 31 (16 on both Algebra and Geometry)
PLAN Reading: 26
PLAN Science: 31
Should I take prep courses for both tests, or should I just focus on one of them? Also, just as a side question, how much does a test score factor in to college admission on average?
You don’t necessarily have to take prep courses for both tests; I personally hate them, and would rather study off of a book. Which test did you personally like more, in terms of the timing and format?
It seems that you did better on the PLAN than the PSAT (your score was a 29 composite which equates to a 1940 on the SAT or a 194 on the PSAT vs. your 186).
At this point, I’d start studying for the ACT. Get the red book (The Official ACT Prep Guide), the newest edition. Or, if you decide you want to take the SAT instead, get the blue book (The Official SAT Prep Guide 2nd Edition.)
However, I’m sure you’re aware that the SAT is changing in the near future, so you can either get the current book and study for the SAT in its current format, or wait until they release a new prep guide and study for the SAT in the new format.
