Two of the three Ivys recruiting our son wanted letters from the others showing interest as a way to prove he was being recruited by the others. They wanted something other than a form e-mail or letter. They specifically requested a handwritten note, or something addressing our son specifically rather than a “dear potential student athelete” type of message. The third one didn’t care what the others did.

IIRC, this was prior to the financial pre-reads. I think this was so that they could gauge the possible other financial offers.

Massrunner, thanks for the help! My child is in a smaller sport–OV same weekend as yours. Wondering if there will be more recruits than spots on the team at this visit, although it’s for the “top recruits”. I’ll urge my child to have the Common application and Brown supplement ready to go before arriving

We are not comfortable. We already have 1 offer from a D2 school. We are also looking at one of the military academies as an option. Once we have all the information together we will work with my son to give him the best option. I don’t know what his choice is at this time but I think the military academy would be his number one.

We also were told he will be getting numerous offers once teams see his senior tape. But the Ivy is the one who sent us the information and what we needed to do. If I can send him to an Ivy school and it is affordable then that is great.

As far as the letters go it was so the school can go to admissions and show them that other Ivys want him and that will hopefully increase their financial aid and chances of getting him in.
They told us hand written notes have a heavier weight to them than e-mails. Luckily, we have 4-5 handwritten notes from other Ivy schools.
