How important is class rank for ivy league admission?

I go to a relatively unknown public school. I will hopefully have a ~3.9 ish GPA and 2300+ SAT, with EC's. However, I was unmotivated my freshman year and got 3 B's first semester (I haven't gotten any B's since then). I'm currently ranked 5th for weighted GPA. Is ivy league admission still possible if one is not at the top of one's class? (There seems to be an attitude on here that you have to be val for the ivies if you go to an unknown school)

Same answer for everyone in your predicament: why YOU as opposed to the hundreds of other similar students? Grades? Good enough. Scores? Good enough. But for an Ivy, that’s only part of the package. The rest tips the scales.

It’s tough to get into an ivy if you’re not top of class at an average school. But being 5 will not put you out of the running, especially if the Bs are early on, if everything else is stellar.

Ivy League adcoms say that most of the people accepted to their schools are people with very very rigorous courseloads and a smattering of Bs. Which means that 5th definitely does NOT put you out of the running, assuming you’ve taken hard classes and challenged yourself. Your transcript matters much more than your GPA. If you have the test scores and ECs, you still have a good shot.
