Ivies/GPA unweighted

How does a 3.89 unweighted look?

In all seriousness…to the Ivies

out of 5?????

unweighted out of 4.0

What is the highest in the class (and your rank)?

I'm not really sure though, because like we do rank on the 100-point scale, not the 4.0.

For rank we weight on the 100-point scale. I have like a 96.333 or something. My rank is like ~25/198 (people leave because it's overwhelming) The highest grade is like 102.02 something.

I just found out we do GPA to colleges on the 4.0 scale, and I don't think we weight. I have like a 3.89 unweighted (out of 4.0).

Honestly, it depends upon your school

Do you go to Andover? An unknown public school? Somewhere in between?

Your grades seem fine, however you are not in the top 10% of you class. Unless you attend a high power HS, your grades are below most students accepted into the Ivies. Of course grades are only 1 component of the application process. You might have 1 1580 SAT, be a recruited athlete, a URM, etc....

It totally depends on how competitive/well-known your school is.
I had a 3.8ish and got into ivies, there are people who are ranked 50 and still get in. There's no cutoff, so anything is possible, and you are going to be judged by a lot more than just that number.

Well the highest grade is probably like a 100 in our class. So how bad would a 96-97 look..even thought that would only put you in the top 15% in our competitive class?!? Seriously our school goes by decimals....97.568... So I think the highest weighted in our class is about a 4.0-4.1.

Hey guys, I'm from Canada and we also use GPA to rate students' performance. However, I don't really understand what you mean by GPA "Unweighted" ???

The unweighted GPA is the raw number, using a scale like A = 4.0 or whatever. The weighted GPA accounts for harder classes, like AP or honors classes. Depends on the school, but some will give like +.1 for an honors class, etc. It's just to prevent someone taking extremely easy classes from having an unfair ranking...

When I visited Johns Hopkins, they said that anything above a 3.7/4.0 uw was great and just fine. They also said that on a 100 point scale, a 91-92% is awesome. Obviously, this would probably be adjusted for the student--nothing but honors classes, 91% is not good. Lotsa AP's--91% is great.

Plus, look at the grading scale. Some schools have an 8-point scale (93+ = A, 90-92 = B+, etc.) while others have a 10-point scale (90+ = A, 80-90 = B, etc.) That's why colleges recalculate your GPA.

My S got into an Ivy ED this year with an unweighted GPA of 3.9-his class rank was top 4% tho.
