Ivy League Applicants from India Class of 2024

For CS, unless you get into CS at IIT B or KGP, or into IISC; even a US Uni “ranked” at 100 for CS would be way better. Also, don’t go by rankings. Professors at almost all US universities do research activities and are way more experienced than MOST(not all) profs at Indian universities, and the level of exposure and actual work i your field you’ll be doing there is amazing, plus the syllabus in India is outdated. IF you can afford, then don’t even think of IIT.

I got a 1560 in SAT and just yesterday gave the interview for KVPY selection.
I am thinking of giving the SAT again to see if I can get 1580+. Is it worth it though?

No. A 1560 SAT is more than enough. As an international applicant you’re going to have to stand out in other ways - the SAT is high enough that it won’t count against you in any way even at the top schools. But as an Indian international, it’s your ECs that you have to worry about now - forget about SAT that’s over for you.

It’s quite a good score. All the best for your interview! I’d advise you to give at least 1 subject SAT along with Math II

I did!

Great!! Which major? Waiting for RD?

Thanks!
I’m thinking of taking the SAT Math II, Physics and Chemistry subject tests (also thinking about Bio)

Do the SAT essay marks matter in any way? (I got 15/24 in my first attempt)

Most places have writing optional. It’s difficult to assume but I hope a good TOEFL Writing score compensates for it. I got 17 in my SAT writing but got full 30 points on the TOEFL Writing…

Don’t you think that this time we can expect more acceptances from top colleges for Indian students given the coronavirus situation. Ours is way better than other countries, including USA, right now.

@tanag123413242 definitely, considering the significant downfall in students from China.

Hey guys!

I’m from New Delhi and originally applied ED to Columbia, got rejected (I like to believe that it was due to me asking for fin aid :P)
Anyway, I’ve applied to Yale, Cornell, and UPenn in the Ivy league and some other schools as well.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
SAT: 1530 (800 Math, 730 English)
SAT Subjects: Took all 3, did okay-ish, haven’t sent the scores anywhere tho
I go to a CBSE Board affiliated school.
12th Grade Predicted Finals: 95+/100
(Eng, Phy, Chem, Math, Comp Sci [The one with Python])
11th: 93/100
10th: 94/100
9th: 9.8/10.0
Rank: Not reported by my school
Strong essays
An extensive list of extracurriculars, with scientific research pursued at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, my own patent on a project I developed in school, and much more stuff like debates, Model UNs, student council, NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Competition, langar seva community service, Interact Club etc.
Pete Conrad Scholar
Intel ISEF finalist from India.
World Scholar’s Cup Champion, went to the final round at Yale as well
EXTREMELY strong recommendations from 11th and 12th grade Physics and Math teachers, along with the counselor recommendation from the principal.

All the best, and stay safe everyone!

1). Coronavirus isn’t something that you should be joking about using or EVEN thinking you could use it to your advantage and is very insensitive! How do you know you won’t be affected by it? Currently travel to the US is closed from outside the US, via Europe. You definitely won’t be given a visa. The powers-that-be are learning about this virus as they treat more patients. You can’t know all there is to know about the coronavirus. Since you believe that your situation is better in India, then stay in India because

  1. Are you really that dense? Do you not think that the top colleges will always have a finite number of seats with more than enough applicants? The coronavirus does not impact the number of open seats. Millions of US high school students will not stop their admission applications because of the coronavirus.

Young people seem to be at an advantage. US citizens are already in the US. The advantage will always go to US citizens. Always. Funding for research and educational needs, for most of these colleges, comes from the US government. US taxpayers (US parents) fund the government.

@“aunt bea”
I am extremely sorry. I had posted this on multiple forums and received the same critical response .Didn’t think it would come up as insensitive. That’s what happens sometimes when we become so engrossed in numbers that we forget the human side of things. Please forgive me for that. I should have been more thoughtful before posting.

Hi. I recently got some awaited results and wanted some advice to put them in perspective.
I was selected for KVPY Fellowship with AIR 86 and I got selected for the Invitational Round Camp of the National Linguistic Olympiad (2nd round in selection for the International Linguistics Olympiad)
Could someone please tell me exactly how much importance is given to these and how I should use them (as extracurriculars or as academic awards)?

Ivy day today? Please share your outcomes…

hey @aarybalkar so did you get in at any of these ?
