Ivy League Chances?

I'm interested in Yale, Harvard, Columbia, and possibly Cornell. I'm hoping to double major in something relating to English, and possibly Political Science, as I want to go to law school.

If I did go to Cornell, not only would I be a legacy, as both my parents graduate there, but my grandfather also works there as a professor of pharmacology, and has for several decades.

Currently, I'm a sophomore, so things like SAT scores and overall GPA are only guesses based on how I'm currently doing and practice tests I've taken.

Unweighted GPA: It generally centres around a 3.9-4.0 on a 4.3 scale.

SATs: Based on practice tests, I'm going to guess at least a 750 on all three parts.

APs: I don't know my schedule for the next two years for sure, but if all goes as planned, I'll have taken eight by graduation. (US History, Human Geography, Physics B, either Physics C or Chemistry, Literature and Composition, Calculus BC, Statistics, and French)

Honours Classes: All my classes are honours classes.

Extracurriculars: Model UN, Choir (school and a prestigious local group), Theatre (two different local theatre groups, as well as school plays), Voice Lessons, Student Government (vice-president), and volunteer work. I also hope to direct a one-act play next year.

Awards: 5th place NYS Spelling Bee, 100 NYSSMA score, Area All-County/All-State Choirs, 1st place in a poetry contest, Runner-Up in a short story contest, Student of the Quarter (eighth grade so it might not mean anything), and I assume by senior year a decent number of Model Un awards.

So what do you think my chances are for the four schools I mentioned. Please tell me which ones you think I have the best chances at and which would give me the best possible chances of going to a top law school. Thanks!

I think you have a great chance for you. If any advice for you, I suggest to have fun. That is the key thing if you want to be successful. if you are not having at the same time, then I don’t see any point. Good luck.

Anyone else? I’d appreciate some more input.

Great stats! May want to check out Stanford as well-- it seems you have some artsy-ish extra curricular activities and I’ve heard Stanford is trying to expand their arts presence (but that could just be a myth, i dunno). Anyhow, your chances at the schools you mentioned (other than Cornell) are hard to predict just because they will be totally based on what those schools need, and whether they have filled the ‘quota’ of your type of student. But if they haven’t, I’d say you’re in at at least one!

Also, you’re into Cornell as long as you don’t fool around with your app or anything, haha.

ALSO I agree with Rocket2237! Enjoy your sophomore year and don’t worry about college until junior year! :)

Hm…

Know that the ivies are a crapshoot for everyone. Cornell will probably go in your favor though.
Look at some safeties. I know the SUNY schools all kinda suck if you’re smart (though Bing and Geneseo can really push the smart kids they have) but they are affordable and a shoo-in for smart NY kids.
Also look at some good liberal arts colleges (Swathmore, Oberlin, Wesleyan Kenyon (good for the artsy kid), Vassar, Colgate, Hamilton) too.

bump bump? i’d appreciate some more views.

bump bump. Please comment, I’d really like some more input.
