Ivy League Essays

If all of the ivy league schools have the choice of choosing your own topic for an essay, does that mean you can just use the same essay for all your applications to all ivy league schools you are applying to?

no, because not all of them give you a choice (ex: penn). Yes, its fine to send the same one to multiple schools. Colleges are more worried about
a) if the essay talks about Yale in an essay you submitted to Brown
b) if the essay doesnt seem like it was original

If two colleges ask the same exact question and you feel that the essay would mesh with the "personality" of both colleges, then yes, it would be appropriate. However, if you use an essay for MIT that explains your love of technology or something and try to use the same one for Brown...it wouldn't seem like an original, especially if you bring up the opportunities of the college (even without using the name).

Which is why I think it's a good idea to reuse most of an essay, but perhaps change a few things around (like mentioning specifics about a school) for each one. That's what I'm going to do. I think.
