Ivy League Hours

How detrimental would it be if someone had less than/ around only 100 hrs of community service work during their HS career but still remained decently active in sports and ECs and hopes on attending some Ivy League schools?

ECs and sports are not incredible, about average for the Ivy applicant, with one varsity letter, and a few leadership positions.

and some music stuff

It won’t hurt to have little or no community service hours if you were dedicated to other pursuits. If volunteering isn’t important to you, don’t mention it in your application and focus on your other activities.

A regional representative from Princeton said that volunteering is just like any other EC. If you weren’t involved, commitment in other significant activities will justify your application. He also advised us not to volunteer for the sake of having something on our applications. Transparent volunteer hours with no impact or reason will be easily spotted by admissions officers. On the other hand, a deep commitment to a volunteer cause will be considered a meaningful persuit–as with any extracurricular.

Never in admissions do you need to have anything as an EC requirement. It would be silly to state that all applicants to top schools must have been involved in NHS; the same goes for volunteering, Aca Dec, JSA, French Club, etc.

thanks everyone for you helpful responses
