Hey everyone!
I’m a junior student currently enrolled in a French school in Morocco. I am really interested in getting into an American top school (Ivy League, MIT, Stanford…). My grades are pretty high, around 18 out of 20 (average). So far I’ve only taken one SAT Practice Test and scored 2050, and I really think I can go further than that. It is really difficult to get involved in extracurricular activites here but I do my best, since it’s not only for my resume, but also because I’m passionate about everything I do. I participate in Model United Nations Conferences overseas, as there are no conferences organized here in Morocco. In January, I will for the first time be a chair in a MUN conference, and I am the MUN travel team’s leader. I’ve been class president every year since 6th grade. I am co-creator and co-chief editor of the school’s newspaper.
I also intend to participate in a program this summer, so I tutor students after school to raise money.
Do you think I can get into one of US’s top schools ?
Thank you!!
You need to have top grades and top scores and a very good essay.
The universities are aware that some international candidates don’t have a lot of EC opportunities so they won’t penalize you for that.
But, the top schools are extremely competitive and hard to gain admission. That score of 2050 isn’t good enough for our top schools. At the Ivies, you need to have a WOW factor. So far, it doesn’t look like you have that.
Our country has over 3000 universities, targeting the top universities will give you less opportunities for admission.
Also, be prepared to pay full tuition and room/board. Scholarship monies are even tougher.
You need to be just about the top applicant from your county
Hi, thank you for your reply! Regarding the SAT, I scored 2050 the first time I took it (Practice test) without any previous practice; I didn’t even know precisely what the test would be about. Now that I have started studying, I think I can reach 2200-2300. My parents don’t want me to go to the US (or the UK) if it’s not for an excellent college, so I have to apply only to the top ones. Obviously, I will also apply to less selective schools in France so I don’t end up taking an unplanned gap year, but the US is realy a “reach country” for me.
ClarinetDad16: Not many people from my country apply to US colleges, even less to top schools, so I think I stand a chance of being the top applicant from here
