Ivy League or State School?

Is it worth going to an expensive Ivy League college if you have plans for medical school?

I'm definitely applying to Cornell but I'm not sure whether I want to do ED or Regular. I may decide to do medical school so I don't want to splurge on my undergraduate degree when I have med school left to pay for. Do you think that it would be better to go to an Ivy League or to a state school like SUNY Stony Brook where I could get some money and do lab research and then go onto a good medical school?

Do pre-med students at Stony Brook have good admissions stats of what amount continues on to medical school?

Also, if I decided to take the requirements for med school while doing an English major, would professors still be willing to have me as a lab assistant, even if I'm not a science major?

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

It all depends on your family’s situation. If money isn’t a consideration (or you feel confident you can get a scholarship), my advice is to visit schools and really think about where you will be happy. Also, you could look into state schools that have strong pre med programs. Hope this helps!

Chance me back?

Stonybrook has long been known as a good science school.

If you are in-state, why not also apply to Cornell’s Ag school, which charges less tuition that the regular part of Cornell?
