Ivy League Pre-read

I just sent my transcript and SAT to an Ivy coach recently and he replied that everything looks good except for the one C I recieved in Algebra 2 in 10th grade. He also mentioned that admissions doesn't like to see Cs so now I'm worried that this 1 C could keep me from continuing the recruiting process with that school.

Could that C be the deal breaker despite good grades in all my other classes?

Triplejumper,

My two cents…Neither of us knows for sure exactly where you stand. Hopefully that coach really wants you, and your academic rigor and other grades is enough to carry you forward. In addition your Ivy “hooks” is enough to overcome that “C”. I think you need to have a heart to heart with the coach to ask him if he has seen other recruits get through this situation before. Hopefully he is straight with you and gives you a little more feedback .

We both know the pre-read AND final decision sits with Admissions. You should hear back fairly soon about the pre-read. In the mean time, I think it would be wise to look at your overall recruiting stragegy and results to date. If you have other interested schools, now may be a good time to re-connect with them to see where they are in their process. I’m an optimist by nature, but I’m always thinking what if…

Good luck!

Class of 2013?
Is so, it’s still very early. Continue to actively communicate with this coach AS IF it will not make a difference and let it play out. At the same time, however, you should be actively communicating with coaches from at least a dozen or so other schools.
If the C is going to make the difference, there is nothing you can do about it and there is no harm in maintaining a strong relationship with the coach.
It can only hurt you to push the coach for an answer now, and it is very likely that he is simply not in a position to give you the answer you are hoping for.
