My understanding of the changes that have occurred is as follows:
HYP now each offer early single choice early action, which may create a 2 stage recruiting process - ED/EA for the most sought after recruits and regular decision for everyone else;
Minimum AI for Ivies is now 176, raised from 171 in summer 2011; and
Class rank is no longer used in computing AI, only GPA is used (this actually results in a higher AI for most recruits whose AI would otherwise have been calculated using class rank.)
Any other changes? Any other thoughts?
Thank you.

Yep, that pretty well cover the technical changes in Ivy League recruiting for 2012. This guide goes into a little more detail about the financial awards that you may see at each institution, as well as strategies to optimize those awards. (with thanks to bball dad)

Hey - thanks for all the interest. CC has a way of munging-up the email addresses in the PM mode, so if you just want to send me an email at jim(at)tier1athletics(dot)org I’ll get it out to you. Might take me awhile - so have patience. Thanks!

Varska, I would like a copy of your updated guide, please. I had your previous version, and it was invaluable for assisting my daughter last year (who was an Ivy athletic recruit and successfully admitted). I’m now in the happy position of helping out some other local parents with advice on applying to Ivies, and I commend you on your clear and well-organized guide.

BTW, I tried PM’ing you about this, but it appears your PM “mailbox” is full and can’t accept any more messages. You’re a popular guy!

I would highly recommend Varska’s Essential Guide To Ivy League Athletic Recruiting. The information found there and Varska’s advice and comments on this board were invaluable during my son’s Ivy recruitment over the past two years.

To get a flavor of it, he has uploaded about 15 pages of the guide on Google docs for people to evaluate.

Varska, I’ve twice tried to PM you to thank you for the intro to your guidebook, but it appears those messages may not have gotten to you. If that is the case, I wanted to thank you here – and also let everyone reading this know that tremendous effort went into this work and it is an incredible resource.

How kind of you to expend the effort to make the recruiting process a little easier for the rest of us!

Hey Varska, I just saw your post and sent you an email. I’d love to see your guidebook. My son has just decided to branch out his search to include Ivies, I hope we’re not too late. Thanks!
