I’d take it as a polite way of saying that there isn’t likely to be a fit for your son at that program. The coach probably feels confident that he’ll get what he wants from the pool of recruits he’s looking at currently.
Without knowing the program I’d say just keep plugging away with exploring other options. That response from HP wouldn’t surprise me but if you’re getting that sort of response from everyone in the conference then it could be a sign that the recruiting pool is pretty competitive this year.
I’m assuming your son is looking at and contacting other schools that might be an academic and athletic fit. State flagships if you’re in a state where that makes sense, Patriot league, some of the Big East or ACC schools, schools in conferences like the mountain west or big sky if you’re out west.
communicated to others that did not make the cut for pre-read (BUT still are their back up option in case pre read does not come green or performance not up to the mark in fall or choose another colleges etc.)
@boldbluecranes some of the announcements of incoming recruits for this fall are starting to trickle out, thought you might be interested. Remember the listed PRs are after senior year; you’d have to do some research to see what these athletes ran as juniors.

Columbia doesn’t have an announcement yet but does have incoming freshmen listed on their roster:
qq - Is cross-country / distance for boys at Brown still a D1 sport? Or has that been downgraded (and continues to be in downgraded state) to a club level sport? Apologies in advance if my question exposes my ignorance.
I am unable to wrap my head around what I read in this thread (Brown Downgrading Varsity Sports to Club Status) and what I read on Brown website which still says its a D1 sport. Maybe I am confusing these terms - D1 sport & club sport.
Yes, as others mention Brown Track and XC were reinstated pretty quickly. I don’t know any details but my sense was that maybe slots were reduced on the men’s side due to title ix and equity concerns (?). There also was a change in head coach last year. Former coach was more distance-oriented; new coach is more sprints/jumps oriented. But I don’t know how any of that has affected recruiting for distance guys. Benninger has been there quite awhile as an assistant for men’s distance and is a solid coach.
It would be helpful if posters named their sport. I know for our daughter (crew) it was later in July even into August for some of the Ivy’s. It is my understanding it is only a small number of AO’s working on pre-reads and it takes time.
Also, nothing wrong with the athlete to check in with the coach and ask about pre-read and also provide a quick update or something of interest.
